I've had my prius for about 2.5 weeks and i just hit the 1000 mile mark. I'm currently averaging 45.6 miles (so far 260 miles on this tank) It's winter in LA which is probably like summer in some areas, but it's getting great mileage. I can't wait til summer.

Also in comparison to my old car... i've already save 100 dollar in gas now. = ) I'm loving this prius

i have about the same miles on my new 2008, but i'm averaging 51.1mpg, maybe the package 9 you have needs more gas

You might find that your mileage is not as good in summer: When the battery gets very hot, the car greatly reduces its use of it, resulting in lowered efficiency. You do not need to worry about the battery: the car will protect it. But reducing its use has the same effect as having a much smaller battery, i.e. fewer mpgs. Also, use of the air conditioning will sap a small amount of energy. I mention this just so you won't think something is wrong if your mpg goes down in summer. On the other hand, some people report improved mpg as the car is broken in, so those two factors may cancel each other out, in which case you could expect to see an improvement next winter.

We are almost at the 1,000 mile mark in our 08 and we are averaging around 48MPG, our dealer told us that we are doing "pretty good" considering that the car "efficiency" is around 82% set by the factory and takes about 5,000 to achieve the best potential for the car. Not sure if this correct or not, his argument about the factory not setting the car at "100%" efficiency was so people can break in the car appropriately. If this is correct we may average better in the future, we will see.

We live close to San Francisco bay area.
