Default Free parking in L.A.

If I read the threads correctly, it appears that the free parking program in L.A. may expire on 12/31/07. I thought I heard/read that it had been extended beyond that date.

Does anyone have definitive information about L.A.? Santa Monica?

Thanks.

Ted

City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation - Free Parking Info
Quote:
On June 21, 2006, the Los Angeles City Council voted to extend the program providing free parking at City parking meters for hybrid vehicles through December 31, 2007; but the Council also directed the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance limiting participation in the free parking program to only those vehicles that have Clean Air Vehicle Decals issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. While the City Attorney is drafting the new ordinance, the City will continue the current program of allowing four hybrid vehicles (Honda Insight, Honda Civic Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and the Ford Escape Hybrid) to park for free at City parking meters without being required to have a Clean Air Vehicle Decal. Once the new ordinance has been adopted by the City Council and goes into effect, only vehicles with the Clean Air Vehicle Decals will be allowed to park for free.

I saw that post and the item on the LADOT web site but I read it to say that the program is over on 12/31/07.

I read it to mean that the current ordinance will remain in place until a new one goes into effect.

For whatever reason, the Los Angeles Dept of Transportation Parking Enforcement bureau told me on Monday that the program did not expire on 12/21/07.

Is this anywhere in writing on the web? I hasten to park and discover that is not the case and have to fight a parking ticket. The LADOT seems so slow in their information delivery. I have had a call and email into them for weeks now about this.

The response I got is below, and nothing since then. The web page has not been updated.

LA DOT,

Has the free parking in Los Angeles for hybrids with carpool lane
stickers been extended into 2008? Or does it end Dec 31, 2007?
