I'm glad Larry clarified his first post; it would be easy for a newbie to see his results and ask, "What am I doing wrong?" I also have been getting 60-65 MPG through the winter months, but he and I obsess about our fuel economy more than most. Don't expect that with normal driving. But part of the beauty of the Prius is that you can drive normally and blow away the results of most any car on the road. Keep doing what you're doing and look for 50+ when the weather warms.

Put the first tank of my own in after almost 485 miles! Only able to put 10.4 gallons in. SWEET! Did drive the full length of the state (Jax to Miami to Orlando to Tampa to Jax) this week. Mileage fell a little on the highway - plus I wasn't holding back on MPH. I averaged 70+ most of the time. Got about 46mpg. But like you said - a heck of sight better than the 17 I got with my SUV! Total gas money laid out for the week - less than $75. That is what my old SUV cost to fill up once and I could only go 350 miles or so before it was hungry again! Did have one hiccup on the trip (I posted as Newbie question - low on gas) that I hope some folks respond to. I have loved my new Toy Car! Hope you continue to be as pleased as I am. |

I remember the chaos when Tampa hosted their first Super Bowl: all the directional signs to the stadium were stolen for souvenirs almost as quickly as they were put up. You'll likely notice better mileage on the smoother highways compared to the state roads, given the same speed. |

Congrats on your new Prius! I haven't had my first fill-up yet. I still have just under half a tank to go (360 miles on that, so far). You wouldn't believe how interested people are when I tell them that I've bought this car. They have so many questions and many of them express an interested in buying one in the future. I have told them to check out this site if they want to learn about the Prius, noting what an excellent source of information it has been for me. I know, for example, that I would not have a 47 MPG average right now without all the tips and information provided by the folks here. Granted, I would probably still be pleased with an increase in gas mileage from that of my last car, but not totally thrilled like I am with my current results. -Sam |

You will then be gliding and not using any gas or electric. If you push too hard though and you get yellow arrows (which means battery usage) you need to back off the pedal again. |

My Car: 2008 Prius Package: #6 Touring Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 1 | Tomorrow is week #2 and I am averaging 44.5 mpg with tank #2. I travel alot and am on the interstate more so then city driving. I first averaged 41.3 mpg so I am happy with the increase. My driving technique has definately changed too with this car. I am now trying to hypermile everytime I drive. I am braking her in slowly and enjoying the $27 buck fill up vs. the $65 buck fill up. |
