Question Can anyone inform me about fleet pricing?

Yesterday I had a dealer say he would offer me fleet pricing on a new Prius. We are not talking actual numbers yet because he is still working on a value for my trade-in. Anyone know approximately what a fleet price would be on an '08 Touring Pkg. 6? If we do start talking numbers I want to know in advance if he's calling it a fleet price but it really isn't.

To my limited knowledge, Toyota Corp. does not have a listed "fleet price". A fleet price is what the dealer would sell to a large company that buys numerous vehicles at once or over time. The price would vary depending on location and even between dealers in the same area.

Remember, salespeople LIE, maybe not all of them all the time but most of them most of the time.

Read CarBuyingTips.com new car buying guide, avoiding dealer scams, new cars, used car buying immediately! NEVER work the purchase of the new car at the same time as the trade on the old. First agree on the price of the new car then negotiate the trade. Otherwise either they will inflate the price of the trade and the new car or lowball the trade. Either way you'll lose.

Canesfan,

Back in the mid-70's I bought a "plain brown wrapper" Chevy Nova that had
all the heavy duty mechanicals the police depts. used at the time. At least in
the GM world, only a select few dealers are authorized to do fleet sales. You
should call the Toyota Portland Region (Or, WA, ID, MT, AK) office,
503-493-4900, to verify these people are in fact authorized to make fleet
deals.

In my case, my Nova -- I drove it for 14 years with only ~$850 repairs
other than routine maintenance, was built (like a brick s--t-house) with the
order from the San Fernando Police Dept. I had to wait 6 months, and I paid
full price, ~$6800, a scandalously high one for the time. But oooh, that car!

Personally, other than taxi fleets, I don't see a connection between a Prius,
and at least my experience with a fleet order, in that the "fleet" would have
a whole bunch of extra stuff needed for the special service of the fleet
operator. The concern that orders the fleet gets a deal due to the numbers
bought. And the fleet is then built to the buyer's specifications.

The whole thing sounds fishy to me. It sounds like the sales person is
playing fast and loose with the term of art, "fleet sales," with an unstated
intimation that you are included in some special deal. I doubt it very much.

Caveat emptor -- Buyer Beware!

I have heard that before and done that, but after negotiating a good price on a new Prius and THEN bringing up my trade I still get the same crappy auction price offered for my trade as when I am up front about having a trade-in. Could it just be true that NO ONE will touch a V8 these days unless it's priced insultingly low? If I am just stuck with this car, so be it.

A typical "fleet" price is $500 over invoice. This can also be the price for internet sales or sales through clubs such as Costco.

All I can offer is, we bought a 2008 Touring w/ package #6 through "internet fleet" a month ago and paid $500 under invoice.
