I lift weights 4-5 time a week. I'm in very good shape. I have had no previous problems in vehicles in long trips. Just this one

Anyone suggest a really REALLY good seat insert? Maybe a gel one or something???

I'm not the heaviest guy in the world, but I do have some meat back there....I just never felt so sore after a drive as I did after the 600 miles to SC.

Exactly why I ordered my leather seats with Liqua-Gel=Dr. Scholls for the butt.
I checked Prius Pro/Cons out before buying, found seats were one of the few complaints.
Seems more prospective buyers would order the Liqua-Gel option.

Then you don't need a cushion, only a wood plank, german seats are usually really hard...

well that's the thing - I had leather seats in my 330ci too and not the same problem. Obviously it was a better designed seat.

Well, I'm going to have to find some sort of gel seat cushion I guess.

Are you serious?
I drove 2600km (1600 miles) in 36 hours including sleeping time (slept in a swag laid out in the back of the Prius) and I was fine with sheepskin seat covers.

Total journey was about 6000km (3700 miles) over 10 days and just 3 night were in motels otherwise I slept in the swag, with no ill affects.

I use a small memory foam pillow as a lumbar area support, without it
I wouldn't last five minute in the leather seats, with it I'm extremly comfortable, several nh to fl road trips, etc, it ain't the bottom it's the lack of lumbar support
jmho

I have one of those memory foam lumbar supports - I ended up sitting on the damn thing because my @ss hurt so bad.

Forgive the 'helpful' folks who, when you ask for a good cushion, say, "Well I dove way long trips and have no problem" (oh, well then, I guess problem solved! ) Sheesh. It's like when some Prius drivers have issues with wind sway ... folks jump on both sides ... "not me" ... "well I do" ... "not me". Or how about my favorite, "My Prius looses power on hills with ice" ... "not me ... YOU must have a problem" ... "mine too!" ... "not me" .... Then theres the other 'great' sollution ... "just buy $1,000 volvo seats, and spend another wad of cash having them custom installed". Hoy vey.

Yes, get a cushion. Google will lead you to many styles. Folks will jump on the cushion bandwagon too ... THIS is the best ... no ... this one! You'll have to maybe try a few. We went through about 3 styles. Once you do, the long drives will be somewhat more tolerable. We've done the 1,350 mile trip between So Cal & Montana a few times ... straight thru ... 20hours ... yuck.

Hi lil red,

Sorry about your aching butt.

I really think that qbee42 hit it right on the head:

It's all very idiosyncratic. What works for one or most will not work for all.

Unfortunately I think that means you'll have to keep experimenting with different things until you find the one thing (or combination) that works for you.

What works for me and my aching, sciatica stricken back and butt is one of those curved mesh lumbar seat backs that you can buy from Frye's for less than $10 or from eBags for around $20.

Good luck.
