"Fix It" Paint Repair

Has anyone used this stuff? I saw the yelling Billy Mays hawking it and thought we would give it a try. Tested it on the Buick first and it turned out really well so we went ahead with the Prius (the keyed driver's side door panel). It actually looks pretty good. I dont know how long it lasts.....thats what i was wondering. but for now, it looks pretty good.

In Sacramento there is Jerry's Paints on Fulton and Edison. who can help touch up many scratches.

I have found that you can touch up the scratches yourself or with some friend who isn't color blind and who you feel is capable.

I know that this may sound silly but after all it is just money.

I have done it a few times and found a much easier and cheaper way to do it yourself.

If you go to an auto paint store/s, who usually deal with auto paint shops, they can match up your color on their computer, mix the special paint and also sell it to you in a spray can and also sell you a clear coat to add on after painting.

Sounds difficult and I thought so the first time I tried it on my BMW motorcycle. I am not a painter and had really never tried it before but decided to give it a try on a $20,000 bike that had been dropped and the body badly scratched.

Total cost of parts came to about $35 and it came out really well. Couldn't tell where the scratches had been, but I did have to sand it down abit and saved about $3000 in the process. By the way, buy the better or best clear coat if you want it to last for a long time.

Just check around and find out where the auto painters go. You might even be able to get one of the clerks to give you a hand for a few bucks. It is really easy and I know that most of you will doubt your ability but then, I did the same.

I also thought some one in my neighborhood had keyed my car, later found out that one of their dogs had jumped up on the door. Funny but that made me feel better knowing that no one in the neighborhood was mad at me.

By the way, it usually is fairly easy to get the clerks to tell you a few trick and they usually get a charge out of being helpful.

Thanks for the tip on Jerry's Paint. I have heard of them before but haven't been there yet. Maybe they can help me match the color on my GF's motorhome where I scratched the front fender.

I loved watching the OxiClean commericals, when he would put the dirty curtains in the fish tank and spin them around and then pull them out and they were white as snow. I wonder why his arm didn't burn off from all that bleach in the water.

My GF can't stand him. I'm not as much of a hater, but I don't really need to be yelled at to get the point.

Now I know who he is. He is very loud and a quick channel changer. I never stuck around his channel because of the yelling ad.

I mentioned Jerry's Paints because I noticed that you were in Carmichael. They are very helpful and you might enjoy checking them out.

Be sure to use a good clear coat.

The first time I did a touch up, I use the cheaper brand and it looked good for about a season but then started turning brown from the sun.

It then had to be sanded down again to remove the old clear coat. It just added extra work but still was pretty easy.

$50 beats an insurance claim any day.

I don't have a problem with him either. I actually for some reason enjoy watching infomercials and shop at home channels. There is something about them that pulls me in. I never have bought anything through that means, but its enjoyable. It takes talent to hock stuff on tv. If I had any scratches on my car I would try the fix it stuff.

the general rule of thumb is that anytime you see billy mays on tv selling something
its probably overpriced or not worth it..

my run down so far

fix it paint repair = dunno. suspect studio lights or standard definition television hide the real results you might get outside in the sun

zorbeez = felt material sold in hobby stores, advertised as super absorbent

hercules hook - costs pennies sells for $10

mighty putty = consumer reports says that "devcon plastic steel" at the hardware store works better, and you do not have to wait 6-8 weeks

oxyclean is sodium precarbonate. you can buy this at chemical supply shops. or you could make your own. to make your own oxyclean, pour 1 part baking soda and 1 part hydrogen peroxide in the wash, when the water is full. very important to pour both in a full tub at the same time, you do not want all that oxygen escaping to the atmosphere and not being used to clean your clothes.

this recipe won't make perfect sodium percarbonate, please if you are a chemistry major, please do not complain, its close enough for washing clothes. most if not all 'non chlorine bleach' on the market are just baking soda and hyrdrogen peroxide

when baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and water hit, the chemical reacton is pretty fast, so that is probably another good reason to add it last, when the water is full

back in the 80s we had that colored wax stuff, and it looked like crap. it ruined the hood of the truck. i never got around to making a product claim. swirls and oxidation... but the minute you took a picture of it with flash photography, it looked perfect

when you see a product 'not sold in stores!' on tv. ask yourself, "why is this product not sold in stores?"

is it because it is expensive?
is it because it generates a lot of returns?
is it because it does not sell well, and is regulated to the half off bin?
is it because store brands are wildly available? (as in the case of oxyclean)
