Default Short Replacement Antenna

Anyone replaced their factory antenna with one of the short replacements?

Listed on eBay and elsewhere are short replacement antennas. Seems this would avoid some carwash problems. I am curious regarding how much (if any) deterioration in reception you may have experienced.

Thanks for your comments.

Followup...

I just ordered the 2" (50mm) black carantenna from Germany off their eBay listing. Cost: $18.23 US (via PayPal) including shipping, 5-year warranty. They also list silver color, 1.2" (30mm) lengths and longer lengths.

Took an email inquiry to clarify currency. I will post reception results, shipping time required, etc. after receipt.

I have installed a short 2 1/2 inch aluminium replacement antenna (solid metal) and reception does suffer with the smaller antennas. No trouble in a metro area but could be a real problem in poor signal conditions.

I presume you choose not to remove (unscrew) your antenna as you wait in line at the car wash.
