What was the problem?
[/b][/quote]

I never quite figured that out - a combination of things. I had encephalitis a couple of years ago, still wasn't back to "normal" when we bought the Accord last year. Always felt like I couldn't see well while driving it, which made me hesitant. Hesitantly is one of the worst ways to drive. Somehow, when driving the Accord, I was just never comfortable, in any sense of the word.
I always loved to drive (my daddy's '68 Chevy Caprice hit
120 more than once with me driving). The Accord made me feel like I was sitting low down in a pit. The leather seats were uncomfortable. Basically, I guess, it boils down to a woman's perogative to be persnickety. It was a mistake to trade our Avalon for the Accord. I'll never again buy anything but a Toyota (although if Chevrolet goes back to making that land whale of a rear-wheel drive Caprice I'd have to at least look at it). Our '94 has more than 200,000 miles on it and still starts up whenever asked to do so. I wish I could explain better -
bottom line is that I never before spent so much on something I liked so little as the Accord. The Camry is like a dream come true in comparison (and that Sony stereo we could afford with the Camry kicks butt). At least this time, I feel like I've done the right thing and am totally happy with the Camry. The Accord made me feel bad, the Camry makes me feel good - what more could I ask?

galaxee -

too bad about the SL1 timing problem!

Was it related to the serpentine belt? I change that every 70-75 thou.

on my 3rd one now.

Bought my SL2 used with around 35k miles and been drivin' that car 90 to 100 miles a day m-f every week for the last 10 years.( do all the routine maint myself.) "It don't owe me a dime!, that car"

nope, that plastic timing chain tensioner guide snapped after too much wear and the whole system did a meltdown...

hubby's a mechanic so he kept a close eye on all gen. maint items. but obviously you can't *see* that the timing chain tensioner is wearing through since it's inside the engine.

we lost well over $5000 to that car after multiple repair attempts- and that's just parts not labor, he did all the labor- and had to pay it off before we junked it, so it sat dead in the driveway for 6 months.

never, ever again will we buy anything but toyota!

my dad settled for a Camry also and its a very good car. he didnt do if for money, he simply couldnt wait any longer for the Prius because he had to have it for his trip to Texas. he was on the list for 2 months and finally said heck with it and went down and drove the Camry off the lot an hour later.

I am actually in the same boat... I ordered a Prius yes but am having serious 2nd thoughts. I looked arround again to make sure I was doing the right thing for my family...

We are looking at the Accord... I can get it at $200 over invoice, side bags, auto etc... that makes the price difference between the Prius and Accord close to $5000. Even with tax deduction - it is still about $4500 difference (the package I wanted). I just can't seem to justify it unless gas goes to $4 for the amount of driving this car will take.

So - most likely I will go Accord route. If I lived in Colorado - it would be a no-brainer ($3000 state CREDIT + fed deduction), but Texas - you get squat for going hybrid...

So - we'll see. In any event, I learned a ton on this totally cool technology and car, loved it!

If you haven't driven a Camry, you really might want to take one for a spin before deciding for sure on the Accord - I hated my Accord, but with the Camry I don't feel I settled for less than the
Prius - I know I've still got a great Toyota.
Hubby doesn't get to drive as much as he did when we had the Accord.

If you know you want an Accord, there's a great one with all bells and whistles and only 8,500 miles on it sitting on a lot in Martinsville, VA.
They really are good cars, but I just couldn't learn to love it the way it deserved. Fair warning - the 6 cyl Accord only got 25 mpg. We're hoping for better from the 4 cyl
Camry, and it has plenty of get up and go.
Whatever you decide, I hope you're as happy with your decision as I am with mine!

Wouldn't this vary state-by-state or is this a federal law?
