Default Accident HELP!.....Please Help Me Out.

I was rear ended in an accident today. Just a little tap from behind. The bumper was slightly compressed on one side on the top of it.

How much are the bumpers to replace? If anyone can help me out with an estimate I would be greatly appreciated. I just want to know before I go into the body repair shop tomorrow. Thanks

shouldn't the other person be paying? You just can't be running around playing bumper cars and not coughing up for the damage you cause. Rear end accidents are the fault of the person who runs into the car in front. Following to close or driving with undue care and attention. Get an estimate and you'll know for sure.

Heya,

I'm not a car body specialist - so take this with a grain of salt because I have no idea if I'm at all accurate, but....

My buddy at work (the one who actually got me interested in Prius) has a white Prius just like mine (but he has the tan interior, I have the gray/burgandy). His wife dented the bumper. His was replaced for slightly over $500.00 I believe.

Hope that helps...

Does anyone know if hits like this can have a negative effect on the batteries? I recall previous accidents dramatically shortening the life of a standard car battery, due, I guess, to the shock/vibration within the cells.

no there is no chance of battery damage until the hatch is smashed in. Then there is the possibility if the trunk plate subducts and hit's the battery case. It happend on the wifes Prius but the battery seems fine at this early stage of it's life.

When you say "slightly compressed" do you mean the bumper itself, or is it that way because what's behind the bumper (usually styrofoam (not sure about the Prius specifically)) is compressed? If it's ONLY the bumper, what yoda says sounds right on target, if there's more to be done behind it, it will obviously cost more. I'd give it a range of $500-$1,800. I base this on a bumper I had "bumped" on another car which required a replacement bumper (say that quickly 5 times!), it's painting, the replacement of the styrofoam, various brackets thereof, and the ins. co. shelled out $1,700 for it.

Unfortunately, I too was rear-ended 2 weeks ago. The total cost to replace and repaint the rear bumper was $568.70 plus tax. The other driver's insurance company paid for everything. I dropped the car off at 8:00 A.M. and it was ready for my by 5:00 P.M. (They had ordered the parts 3 days earlier). The job was done perfectly and you can't tell it from new. I am very satisfied. Good luck
