City of Houston Prius

I left my son's house in Houston today to drive home to Austin. On 610 I saw a white Prius with what appeared to be a "City of Houston" emblem on its side. Was it that, or was it some commercial vehicle with a really official looking sign on the door? (Traffic was more awful than usual.) Does Houston have a Prius fleet?

They do have some city of houston owned priuses. Dont know if its a fleet.

It's a fleet, and the city has more on order.

I believe it's only the city housing and permit departments that use them at the moment.

There was an article in the Houston Chronicle a few months back about the City of Houston buying new Priuses (Mayor Bill White owns a black 2004 model). I was going to post it here on PriusChat but there was a copyright declaration on the web page and I never got any reply from my email to the Chronicle for permission to publish it here.

It is a city fleet, my local dealer in Nederland Texas delivered 105 white Priusses charging the city of Houston $18,795 for each one under a fleet sale agreement. The cars had all the basics, and just an AM/FM radio, tan interior. I begged for one and told them give me the spare, they had an emergency spare., but that one wound up with the city of Houston too. That was back in May 2005 and delivery occurred between May 05 and Jun 10, 2005 was the deadline. The dealership advertised to get delivery drivers, tried for that too, but applied too late.
