Thumbs up

I recently had my xm installed prior to my purchasing my new 07 prius. However the stuck the antenna on the glass, which is where toyota instructs them to put it! ugh. To make a long story short, I wasn't going to drive around with a white sticker on my windshield so I removed it and simply place it on the very front of my dash.

My question is, what kind of reception is everyone getting with this system? The dealership is going to try to get me a external antenna and put it on the roof where it belongs, I am assuming this will be better but so far not at all impressed with the xm signal. It gets fuzzy quite often driving around simply from just trees and buildings....

I installed Sirius in my 4runner and that worked fine, 10 times better than the XM so far. I would have gotten Sirius but the dealership told me it was available...not sure I understand why it isn't

If anyone has any advice please hit me up. Thanks!

I let mine magnetically attach to the center speaker housing. Seems to work well except when going on a steep downhill facing north such as in a mountainous area. XM works great in the Prius.

Mine is under a shark fin antenna on the roof in front of the rear wiper squirter. Reception is OK but I do get some interruption going under things. When I am on the freeways no problem at all.

I installed an integrated XM unit a few weeks ago. I figured I'd try the antenna on the dash next to the windshield, for two reasons: 1) to save me the trouble of routing the wire through the car, and 2) so as not to worry about the long term effect on the paint on the roof. So far, so good with reception. Once in a great while the signal drops out under bridges or adjacent to tall structures, but that's infrequent enough not to be bothersome. I'll probably leave it on the dash.

Update on my issue, my local dealer placed the antenna on the center of the back of the roof where the antennas are supposed to go, however still getting static and not happy with the performance of the satellite. So have decided to pursue what options I have now being unhappy about spending this much money and not working even up to par with aftermarket units.

At this point I would give the unit back for a refund and do something myself.

Well after driving around for the weekend and today, have decided it isn't all to bad.

Have found that I can now drive under overpasses without losing the signal. The only time I am having issues is with extremely heavy tree cover or huge hills right next to the car which sounds normal from what everyone is saying on here.

I think I am still going to pursue getting Sirius as I like thier line up much better after having XM now for a week.

If anyone reads this and is interested...I'll most likely be ready to sell the XM system in a bout a week if anyone wants to make an offer???

Dealership charged I think approx 400 for it.

Thanks

I recently had my local dealer install the optional XM radio in my 2007 Prius. The antenna sits on the passenger side dash, just under the windshield. So far, the reception has been great. It occasionally drops out -- in the garage, in between tall buildings, etc. Otherwise, I'm an XM radio fan and I know I'll enjoy having it in the car.

I installed a small sat antenna internally right UNDERNEATH the dash board near the driver side corner closest to the windshield glass. The reception is excellent without any signal dropout.

Since there's a new update in this thread, I figured I'd update it too with a picture I took this past weekend:
