Hi again,

I'm wondering whether buying a portable jump starter with an air compressor for $50 from ebay. They are ugly and heavy, but with the prius not having a full spare I'd rather inflate a punctured tire and drive to Mr Tire or NTB. Does anyone have these and have you jump started the car (or any car I guess) with it?

The second question was about a "This Vehicle is protected by an advanced alarm" window sticker that I want to buy/make. Yes just the sticker not the alarm, lol. Does anyone know where I get these?

Thanks for you help

I doubt there's a jump starter out there that wouldn't work on the Prius. All the Prius needs is enough power to operate the computer to turn on the car, unlike other cars with starters to crank the ICE.

Odds are good no one will break in since it has the flashing Immobilizer Icon on the dash, as most alarms have a red flashing led . I would by-pass the sticker and get a German Shepard and stick in the hatch area or the trunk monkey

It's so easy to fix a flat as long as you can park safely and yes just buy a 12v pump at Wal-mart-cost 10 bucks. You can also buy a plug kit 6 bucks and fix the flat right there.Easier then taking that ugly spare out and mounting it.Just make sure you inflate the tire to at least 30 lbs, take out the nail insert the file ,glue the plug and insert.I have used this method for years with no ill effects. In most cases you dont even have to take the tire off.

How can someone measure tire pressure and inflate their tires "cold" if they go to the gas station?

Don't you mean how can somebody inflate their tires "cold" if they DO go to the gas station? If they drive there their tires will not be "cold".

Get a tire pressure gauge. Check the tire pressure after the car has been stationary for a few hours, before you drive to the gas station. Note how many pounds of pressure you need to add to each tire. At the gas station, take a new reading (it will be higher). Now add the amount of air that the tire was low when it was cold.

For example. When cold, the pressure was 32. It should be 35. You are three pounds low. By the time you drive to the gas station it reads 34. Add the three pounds that you were low when you earlier checked the cold tire for a total of 37 (when hot).

In the alternative get a portable air compressor. You can find one for less than $20.

I bought, ($89) a small 1.5 HP compressor and keep it in my garage. Makes it easy to check the air on the cars weekly.
As for a sticker warning of an alarm......I am not sure that will work. At least here in CA people don't even pay attention to actual alrams that are sounding, let alone some sticker on the window. But good luck, maybe it is different in your neck of the woods.
