I'm surprised no one got back to you on this.
The EV switch helps keep the car in electic only mode a bit longer and at higher speed. And if you are going slow enough, you can force it into electric only. But it's not a total overide. If you push the car enough, the ICE will start no matter what you do to that button.

It might have practicality if you need to move your car a short distance and you don't want the ICE to come on. Otherwise, it is just there to help you show how the car shuts off at times. And maybe scare people in parking lots.

The button is technically "not allowed" in the USA and Canada, and I'm not sure why. The switch is fairly common in Japan and Europle -- I think as an add on.

Hubby pulled a few panels off the dash and said it should be an easy install. I can write up instructions for the rest of you for this particular switch after we get through the install if anyone's interested- htmlspinner's instructions, although good (and no offense to you whatsoever) were a little more work than necessary, or so I'm told.

Anyone know if the indicator is still in the dash? We looked with a flashlight but couldn't see anything. Wonder if we took the IC out if we could find the spot where it goes? Now that would be awesome.

Well either way we'll play around with it and see what we can do
Please do write it up and take photos if you have an easier way to do this...add it on after Rick's write-up as a modification. And, FWIW, the install can be much easier, but to get the button to light you've got a little more work to do.

I believe that problem was fixed long ago.

It uses the cruise cancel wire, but I would not say it "hijacks" it, since the cruise control continues to function normally. A better word would be that it "mulitplexes" onto the cancel wire.

It does not have any affect on the minimum speed at all.
I've amended my post above.

If you have the Coastaletech EV mod and have EV mode engaged as well as cruise control, and you hold the cruise control cancel for 2 seconds to cancel EV mode, does cancel cruise control as well? Or will it only cancel cruise control if you hit cruise control cancel momentarily (< 2 seconds)?

Cruise control can not be used while in EV mode...so your question is moot.

Yeah they are on E-Bay but they are like $110- that seemed a little high to me. Am I wrong?

Ah, I didn't know that.

I did finally find out where I got the idea that the Coastaletech Cruise Control EV mod prevents cruise control use under 35MPH and hence the reason I originally used the term "hijack". The reason I couldn't find the forum thread is b/c it's in the Knowledge Base. :P It's in the EV Button Installation Instructions KB article.

Evan, may I suggest you amend the KB article?

I received my package yesterday, installed already, works fine. I've sent an email to the seller and he or she replied that more to come and they are developing a web site too for other parts to be sold. No date yet but soon they said.

Wow $102, the demand is out there, more power to them.....

Installation went well, some what easy, so if anyone needs help let me know.

I got mine from Japanparts.com and the total was $47 including shipping. It reached me in 5 days - but then I live in CA too. I am waiting for some other items first before I install it, including getting the alarm installed/turned on I bought first.
:wtf: Why not just buy it from japanparts.com for $50 including shipping? It was delivered to me in under a week too!
