Friends: 9 | i dont think the guys went around the canbus the basic callcars system with contactors works the same injesting power to the plugin pack and system from a higher voltage batterypack in this case a higher voltage DC-DC converter from 48 volts to XXX volts. the new prius ( did you see the pictures ) got socket and plug connections on the wire's from the cells to the current sensor and is not that easy to converter we have to see and wait of anyone is willing to opne up there system for us all to see what can be done (easily )

I'm in an unusual situation that I drive 17k miles/year, with a break at home for about 4-5 hours mid-day. So, I would charge twice a day instead of once. That improves ROI. I'm one of those greedy green people. I buy energy saving gizmos that yield at least a 5-6% ROI. So far, Hymotion and Plug-in power don't qualify. -->Adam

For this PHEV, the math: Initial Cost: $2000 (2KWH version) MPG without mod: 50 MPG MPG with mod: 75 MPG Miles Driven: 17k/year or 48/day, 2 charges/day Fuel Savings per day (at $3/gal): $0.96 Battery Life: 2000 days Total Fuel Savings: $1,920 Thus, near zero IRR. You could do better with a savings account at 2%, but the IRR is close to zero. If you factor in the fact: - I strongly belive that gas is going to go up in price a lot more than $3.00. I think a $4-5 average over the next 5 years is realistic. - The cost of batteries will be lower when you repurchase. - You have higher residual value in the vehicle. - You have the value of the non-battery PHEV parts. IRR could very well be positive. -->Adam

This thread is about an eBay seller offering a Lithium Ion LiFePO4 batteries assemblies at 12V nominal @ $250.00 a piece, plus shipping. For a workable PHEV conversion you need 20 of these plus a suitable charger, about $900 and a BMS for, at least, each 12V assembly, another 40 a piece and the cheap conversion KIT from Plug-In Supply( CalCars contactor type). Playing with this type of toys doesn't become cheap as you think.

The other PHEV mods I have seen are $5-$10k, which is out of my price range. I am suspicious of this one because it seems so much cheaper than competitors, but it looks like Keityyyy is willing to try it first.
