Maybe they are planning on hybridizing some of their limos. Either way, I expect they'll have plenty of room for the install.

I own the 4KW kit and today I drove 51 miles at 94.9MPG. The battery low light did not light but the balancer started beeping and I have one bad cell that needs replacing. The drive consisted of mostly city 35 to 45mph with about 8 mile highway at 60mph. The ICE was off a good share of time except when accelerating hard. The OEM battery is always at 9 bars.

one bad cell? that fast..

i did hear about those yellow thundersky battery's in the past not being that great.. lots of bad cells

i hope that is solved in 2009.

maybe you dont have a bad cell but just need the pack to balance itself for a while?

I just purchased Jack's 2007 that he had in Madison. I'm looking forward to many years of high mileage driving with it.

I first became aware of this conversion when I saw it a Hybridfest, Green Drive Expo in Madison WI nearly 2 weeks ago. At the booth was Jack and one of his collegues, not to mention a Salsa Red 2007 with the 2kw kit installed. While I waited in line for about 30 minutes to get a chance to ask questions, I poked around the car and took mental notes. When I finally got to talk to Jack, I found him very knowledgeable. I spent another 30 minutes peppering him with questions, all of them he answered satisfactorily. He was very careful not to over promise. At that point, I decided that this kit was worth more investigation.

Why? Because Hymotion is not a good fit for me. My commute is 68 miles each way. I don't care about EV. I want ICE assist for 75 minutes on the way to work, and another 75 minutes on the way back. 5kwh ain't gonna cut it. This kit is highly scaleable. I can tune it to my needs.

Why else? Because it is transferrable. If my next hybrid has a 200V nominal traction battery, I can transfer my investment to the new vehicle. If the voltage is higher or lower, I can either adjust the output of the converter(s), or buy new converter(s) if necessary. The bulk of my investment (batteries) is reuseable.

Looking forward to sharing some meaningful information/results with my fellow PHEV enthusiasts.

Not neccesarily a bad cell. It is just the lowest cell of the bunch. You would expect that to happen. The BMS alarms at 2.8V. The other cells could be at 2.9 or 3.0V. In that case it would be normal situation. If the other cells are at 3.2 or higher, then I might consider changing out the cell.

If anyone knows of an incident with poor quality that occurred after 2005 with LiFePO4 (Yellow Case) batteries, please let me know.

Yes, I realized that, sorry I wasn't clear. I don't know what is so special about 2005 and beyond, but I haven't been able to find any issues since then with my google searches. Thunder Sky Battery Limited has a CE mark and ISO9000:2001 certificate but I can't read the dates on them.

Another interesting bit that I found on thier website:

I have met Jack Chen a few times and I would vote to have his posting privileges reinstated. Banning for one spam message is overly harsh. He has a good product and it would be helpful for all of us to be able to benefit from his knowledge.
