Peepole read this....Norm is ending production in about 2-3 weeks. If you ever wanted or thought you might want a CAN-View order NOW. I can't over-emphesis the quality of this product. It is a techno-geek dream if you own a Prius. Put that tax return to good use, beg your SO for some extra pocket change, put it away as a Christmas gift to yourself....use whatever excuse will put your mind to ease for the budget hit, but don't let this opportunity slip away and then regret it 2 years from now.

I'm sorry to see Norm be forced to give this project up but can understand why.

Norm, would you consider releasing the circuit and parts diagrams in case someone wanted to build their own and then use your software to program it?
[/b]
Sorry, my tax return is already spent, and I already have a CAN-View. However, if I didn't I'd order one right now, and if I couldn't afford it now, I'd order one later with the promise to do a PHEV conversion. The latter, I intend to do eventually in any case.

Dave M.

P.S. If he eventually does a V5 that works with the '04-05' models, I'd be willing to order one of those as well.

Hi, the short answer is no, I don't intend to make a CAN-view version that works with the existing MFD in 2006 models

For a longer answer, you can search past postings for reasons why its just uneconomic for me to pursue this in the very small quantities involved. This has been an interesting, if money losing, hobby but with no real market demand, its time for tough decisions and so I have chosen instead to focus on CAN-view's use as a controller for plug-in conversions.

Consequently, as of the end of May I will no longer be building CAN-views of any type, except for those seriously considering a plug-in conversion. I think I'll be able to contribute more this way. I will, however, continue to support all existing CAN-views.

You might investigate the made-in-Japan device Ken1784 has promoted which at only $250 is a bargain.

[/b]
I'm heart broken, it will not be any more CANview equipment for the future Prius drivers...........sob..sob..

If its a time thing I'm sure people would be willing to buy a "kit" that they could put together. Say include the case, circuit board with the SMD components already soldered on, and a bag of parts. Then people could solder on everything, flash the device, and have a complete can-view. Or you could sell just the circuit board with the SMD components soldered on and have people buy what they need from digikey with a parts list that you provide. I say you should have the SMD components already soldered on because I know most of us don't have the ability or the equipment to solder the SMD components. I know I don't.

If its a money thing then I'm sure you can make some more money buy providing it as a "kit".

Just some thoughts.

As I mentioned in one or two other threads (and after some of Evan's gentle arm-twisting ), I got the Can-view. It arrived yesterday, and within a couple of hours was installed and up and running. Woohoo!

I spent a lot of last night and today reading through Can-view threads. I know some of you have mentioned the data logging ability via the optional serial output (which I got), but I don't remember who or where. Have any of you used it? I hurriedly took a whack at it today using instructions and software provided here and here, but had some issues. I'll spare you the details until I've done more troubleshooting later this week, but in the meantime I just wanted to identify resources for possible assistance.

I haven't done anything on this yet, but intend to. Maybe I'll get a chance to look at it next week, after I've turned in final grades.

Here is everything I know about the data logging:

This is some of what I've collected using the CAN-View.

Ryan, thanks for responding. I saw your information yesterday, in fact, as part of my search for solutions. I love your charts! Now if I can only replicate that.

So, I am still having problems and posted details in this PC thread (posted there because that thread is specific to Can-view data logging). I also e-mailed both Dave Roper and Gary Morris. Gary was kind enough to respond and have me send him the raw data file and the resulting log file to look at. Nothing definitive yet.

Anyway, even if that's all you know about data logging, you obviously are much more technically savvy than I. I would be very appreciative if you take a look at my post there and see if anything jumps out at you.

Finally, Norm, if you're listening, any ideas from you too are appreciated.
