I am now on my second display in one week. I have 2005 Prius. Problems (both times) temp display in Centigrade not Farenheit. First time air co did not work. Couldm't press down buttons. They changed display . One week later. Temp display went wacky again. I would press air co button on low and it would jump - by itself - to high. Then none of the buttons worked and it started blowing heat.

DIsplay also had gradated color... lighter blue on one side and darker blue on the other.

I went though posts and did not see any with a problem like this.

Does the dealership know what they are doing? Without knowing more details, it may be a good guess that maybe the dealership isn't quite as knowledgeable as others. They installed the MFD a second time and it still showed temperature in metric? Did they just give it back to you and called it "good as fixed"?

Good question. However, the problems with the 2nd display took about 5 days to show up. Very weird. If they had started right away I would have thought I'd gotten back the same display. Also 1st time I had no air co and no heat and this time I can't shut off the heat which insists on blowing on high. It's as if there is a ghost in the car... only kidding... but you get my point.

My gut is that it is an electrical or computer problem which is CAUSING both screens to act weird. I think they changed the screen to start with becasue it was much easier than diagnosing a computer/electrical/technical problem.

I was hoping someone here might have a similiar experience so I sould finally get my car back.

Robin

Centigrade has not been used since the late 1940s. In the SI ("metric") and US system of measurement, temperature is measured in degrees Celsius. The US is a metric nation whether most people realize it or not (money, videos, computers, cars, paper, guns, skis, soft and hard drinks, etc.). Be thankful, that as with your Prius, you are ahead of the curve. To visualize and create a mental map, remember:

30's hot
20's nice
10's cold
Zero's ice

This definately does NOT sound like a problem w/ the MFD itself. I, too, suspect a problem elsewhere...perhaps the computer for the AC and or the sensor for the AC. It is not a common issue...I've never seen anyone w/ a similar complaint in the 3 years this board has been here. It's one for the dealer to fix for sure.

well if the new screen didn't fix it, sounds like it's time to try something else.

hubby has been extremely busy lately (sigh) but i can see if i can get some ideas from him tonight.

I don't see how it can be anything but the display. Especially with the graduated color, though that could be the background 'wallpaper'. It does sound as if they installed the same display, either intentionally or accidentally.
But perhaps a power reset might be in order. Try disconnecting the 12V battery for a while. A bit drastic, as you lose all your presets (but not any of the NAV settings I believe) but that's a small price to pay.
