Fuel pump sound after shutdown

Just learning the nuances of my new 07.
After shutdown, it sounds like the fuel pump runs for 5 seconds then shuts down. Is this what I'm hearing? Why would the system run up pressure after shutdown instead of prior to start up?

Found the post on disabling the annoying reverse beep...THANKS.

Now we are a 2 Prius family. An 01 and 07... W would be proud!

That's the coolant storage pump. Your Prius has a thermos that stores hot coolant and keeps it warm for up to 48 hours...this is then pumped back into the engine upon start up to warm the heads with reduces emissions that would otherwise result from a cold start.

Our 2001 doesn't make that sound. Is that technology new to the 04 and on models?

Yes, I think it's new on the 2004 generation. In summer you can barely hear it, in winter it seem to make quite a bit more noise, at least mine does. It really helps the engine heat up quite a bit faster and yet another reason you don't need to "warm up" your engine in the winter. I simplu push start and then drive (carefully) for the first 5 minutes
