I stumbled upon this today. Initial impression from the web site suggests it could be superior to ScanGauge (albeit at a price) in several ways:
  • Many more engine parameters available
  • Customizable displays
  • Data logging (yeah!!!)
  • Companion PC software with USB interface
Anyone ever heard of it?

They want $309 for it! My SG2 works just fine for much less.

Yes, it's more than the Scangauge. But when I purchased my Scangauge II I was quoted an extra $100 for the data logging mod. (if/when they ever get it working!). So it's not much different in price.

It's not clear to me that it displays any hybrid parameters. For that price, if it doesn't have hybrid parameters, I'd definately go for a CAN-View (only 9 days remaining to get one btw).

The thing that first caught my attention is the data logging capability. Turns out that it's limited to 3-5 minutes or 90 seconds, depending on whether you believe the web site's FAQ section or the user manual. I wouldn't expect unlimited memory in a device that size, but I'd like more than that.

Evan, just to confirm: The Can-view doesn't log data, does it? And you're right; it doesn't seem to grab Prius-specific data. The site promises more manufacturers' customized data in the future. I'll call them later and see what's in the hopper.

David, have you heard how much data the SG is supposed to log if/when that module materializes?

The ability to data log is NOT built into the CAN-View, but there are ports to allow you to connect it to a PC and log the data, as much as you want. Now, I've never used this, don't know how to use it, and may be completely misunderstanding the capabilities. But Norm is quick to answer questions like that. Seriously, if you'd give a moment's thought to spending $300 on the DashHawk you really need to consider a CAN-View...hell, buy the thing, try it out, and sell it to someone else if it doesn't meet your needs....it's going to be a hot commodity once Norm stops building them.

Yes. If you want to do data logging with the CAN-View, you need to order the serial port option.
But he should order now, unless he wants to do a PHEV conversion. I understand he'll be able to order with that option at a later time.

And he was. Not only quick but thorough. It looks like this could be a "go" even for this "techno-peasant" (as a colleague once described). Evan, you might have finally hooked me.

I paid $149 for my SG2, add $100 for the data logging mod makes it $249 compared to $309. $60 bucks is a big difference to me. That's 4 months worth of gas.

You won't regret it...and if I'm wrong just sell it.
