Default How many inverters?

Reading this site

http://www.artsautomotive.com/PriusMG2.htm

I discover that the prius Classic has two inverters.

The MG1 motor temp was 152 deg. F
The MG2 motor temp was 320 deg. F (clearly too hot!)
The MG1 inverter temp was 107 deg. F
The MG2 inverter temp was 91 deg. F

Is this still true with the Prius THS II?

Wink Re: How many inverters?

Perhaps a few more if you also count:
  • 12 VDC supply (NHW11 and NHW20)
  • AC compressor supply (NHW20 models)
But we're getting into the weeds at this point. For motive power, both vehicles have two primary power inverters dedicated to MG1 and MG2.

Bob Wilson

ps. MG1 and MG2 inverters are bi-directional in that they can covert power back to battery voltage. Most inverters are one-way only. Now we're looking at the root nodules.

Just to understand.....

Battery 202V DC <--> 500V step up converter <--> MGn Inverter <--> AC MGn

Am I correct?

HV battery
- DC-DC converter -> Aux battery
- DC-AC inverter --> A/C compressor
DC-DC step up converter
- DC-AC inverter --> MG1
-
DC-AC inverter --> MG2

Thanks Ken.

One last question: I thought tha the A/C Compressor was 500V. From your schema it looks like 200V

Hi Tramp,

The A/C
compressor is driven by inverter from 201.6V line.
Please refer to page 3 on the following article.
