Murphy's first law applies here - anything can and will fail in the fullness of time, usually at the worst possible moment. The accelerator pedal is not mechanically connected to the engine. It's a "fly by wire" system. Sounds like the potentiometer failed, but it could be something else. As I said, I'm sure the dealer will find the problem and fix it quickly. |

First, your knee bumps the shifT knob into neutral (N) Next, your foot pushes down on accelerator Then, no power Perhaps this is just a troll. But actually, when you do this, there IS a response. Unlike a regular ICE car, YOUR car won't rev when in neutral. This not only stops you from wasting fuel, it stops you from blowing out the HSD, by high revs going back into drive. A regular ICE car will let you blow out your drive line when you over rev, then slam back into drive. welcome to PC, priusnowork. . |

To prevent this there are two hooks on the floor near the seat which should engage two holes in the floor mat. Last edited by richard schumacher; 06-29-2008 at 11:06 AM. |

My Car: 2008 Prius Package: #6 Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTM Awards: 0 Friends: 0 | Hi all, thanks for responding. This form rocks. It was the wierdest thing. I was going 83 on the freeway and all of the sudden the speedometer started showing 82, 81, 80, 79, ect... I was in the carpool lane with 3 passengers (on the 405 in Southern California) and I had to start jack Knifing the freeway to get over to the shoulder. I basically slowed the entire freeway down to 40 miles per hour while I was cutting everybody off. Once I made it 7 lanes over to the shoulder I shut the car off and turned it back on. When it came on again, the car wouldn't go into any gear (it was stuck in Park). I had my brother try to get it in gear and he couldn't either so we shut the car off again but this time we waited 3-4 minutes to turn it back on. After the second re-boot the car finally was able to get into gear. The car acted very strange the rest of the trip... it felt like the engine was pulling at times and then the steering wasn't quit right. I drove 60 miles per hour (right next the shoulder) the rest of the way. I took the car into Toyota and they drove it for 200 miles and said they couldn't find anything wrong. They gave the car back to me, but it's sad cause I'm super scared to ever take it on the freeway again. The Prius was a great car, but after that happened to me and my family, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm sorry but the car really sucks. I've never heard of a car that shuts down on the freeway and risk the passengers lives like that. |
