I would say Prius buyers made a rational decision that allows them to show off to their neighbors.

I personally enjoy showing off my rationality, whenever possible..

Why would we want this thread to end? Its better than most of whats on TV these days

Just for kicks heres the actual data analysis done by the DOE one more time. The DOT refuses to look at the data this way. Instead they prefer to do crash tests and show how safe a vehicle is in a vacuum where no other cars exist on the road and everyone drives around in that vaccum at 35mph. In contrast the DOE took the DOT's crash data, and looked at how many people actually die and kill others driving specific vehicles, and then normalized that data to the number of that type of vehicle on the road.

(sorry to those who are seeing this for the 7th or 8th time)

Not only are you twice as likely to die in a full sized truck compared to a Camry, you're 4 - 6 time more likely to kill someone else.

I'm all for using vehicles for their intended purpose. If you run a farm, sure you probably need a pickup truck. Until recently the most economical full sized truck was probably a diesel. As someone whose livelihood is highly dependent on the price of diesel fuel, one would think that you would be supportive of those who are making the choice to try and limit their consumption. One would also think your anger would be focussed on those idiots out there pissing away the natural resources you depend upon. Why "y'all" choose to waste your time riling up hybrid owners is honestly beyond me.

No other outlet for his growing frustration, maybe?

I'm not gonna read this whole dang thread, but I notice that the OP did touch on at least one good point: there's nothing green or ecologically responsible about building individual houses, big or small, on-grid or off, way out in the country. The least invasive way for humanity to live on Earth would be in a relatively few but really big cities, where we get maximum benefit from economies of scale and proximity, and leave the rest of Earth alone.

I did read the whole thing. It wasn't worth it

I don't disagree, but I reject the normally applied corollary. This argument is usually followed by "since you bunch of hypocrites live in houses instead of caves and eat meat instead of foraging in the forests what difference does it make what you drive." That seems to be how a lot of these arguments wind up. I fear its also a popular sentiment. Since we can't be perfect, why should we bother to make any effort at all?

it isnt about argument Rob. It's about anger misplaced. Anger at the price of oil and the price of gasoline and anger that he cannot afford it like he used to.

He is just spouting off in troll fashion to share his angst. Since he is worse than we are logically he should go shoot himself and spare us all. Bet that wont happen.
