John,

I just got mine set up in My Yahoo as well. We'll see how useful it is over the next few days.

I agree with Wolfman. Come, enter, read, post, leave. I get 80 emails a day; and I'm not a network administrator.
The RSS feeds don't get mixed in with the regular e-mail so that's not really an issue. Each feed is segregated to it's own folder and the PC folder serves almost like a window into the "View posts since last visit" function on PC.

Now that I've had a chance to try RSS for PC (for all of a few minutes now ) I would definitely miss it if it were to disappear again. The Prius is a cutting edge vehicle on the technology front (besides the good mpg and being "green") so it's quite appropriate for PC to take advantage of another technology like RSS that is somewhat on the edge.

It's actually easier to setup than e-mail once you have a compatible application -- web-based or otherwise. Like the old TV commercial used to say "Try it you'll like it!"

Tell you what - I'll put the RSS feed back up for the forums if you'll put together a quick & dirty explanation/How-To on using RSS with PriusChat.

Deal?
Danny,

Thanks for putting the RSS back up..I love it!

Now on to your suggestion about a "How to"... and "What for?!"

Rather than reinvent the wheel here are a couple of sites that do a decent job of giving and overview of what RSS is and how to take advantage of it. These sites also have links to several RSS news readers or aggregators.

http://email.about.com/cs/rss/a/rss_spam_f...e.htm?terms=RSS
http://www.cnet.com/4520-6022-5115113.html
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...secrssinfo.mspx

Okay, now that I've given credit for the sources let me blatantly do some copy and paste for the nuggets.

"Using RSS Feeds
[list]

Now let the feed reader do its aggregating work, and enjoy the news."

Why use RSS feeds?
[list]
An earlier post described how a web portal like Yahoo can be customized to include content from PC.[*]Another poster described using Windows Media Center to with RSS feeds like PC[*]Perhaps you can add to the list?[list]

John -

Would you mind posting this in the Announcement concerning the RSS feed as well? I think it would be helpful for all of our users to see.

Thanks,

Danny

Also, if you click "Edit" on your My Yahoo! page you can select to see certain #s of posts and whether you want to see summaries of posts or not.

Me too!

Is there an RSS reader for the Mac? The one that Danny mentioned is only Windows.
Click me for a good RSS reader for Mac OS X.

BTW, OS X 10.4 Tiger's Safari will include RSS support built-in.

P.S. I have an RSS feed for my Mac weblog --> Click the image to open in full size.

well my thing about the feeds is that i have 4 computers that are all networked and sharing a 56k dial up...(yes i have lots of free time) so i would not use it because of the constant bandwidth issues that i have now.

also i am running setiathome client which automatically uploads completed work units and downloads new ones for processing. if there is a high demand for bandwidth, the client will frequently time out and then have to be reset manually.

other than that, if i had broadband i would do it in a second since i come here nearly every day for at least a little while anyway.

as of right now, 2453 units completed as a member of the Jan 12, 2004 class under DaveinOlyWA

i also had ~5000 under me469247

and ~1500 under DaDnDe

but i have an advantage, i have 4 computers running separate setiathome clients. so i submit an average of 14.48 work units per day.

There's no requirement to have it running all the time.

Plus, if anything the RSS feed might help you in terms of saving bandwith. Just load the sites at an appropriate time and have it all available on your desktop, sans the images and ads.
