A Weird Suggestion?

...as resident, long term troll, there's something I notice about my behavior as I try to break away from angry political discussion in FHOP...

Basically, it's like this:

There are a ton of great non-political topics in FHOP, but the PROBLEM is, I can't HELP but get dragged into political discussions whenever some eye catching title such as, "BUSH must be impeached like the CRIMINAL he is!!!" appears.

So, when I go in there, and I TRULY try sometimes to avoid these, you just can't help yourself. It's like an obese person in a cookie store with free samples, you're hand is just gonna go in the jar. ...and I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets dragged in like this.

So I guess my suggestion would be, if someone could add a "politics" sub forum within FHOP??? It's probably been discussed before, not sure of the what's or the why's behind it, but just wanted to throw that out there, as only today did I notice this particular aspect of my behavior. I truly did want to go into FHOP to avoid politics, but alas my argumentive will is just too WEAK!!!!

Hmmm, maybe a decent idea. My hesitation is that we have so many forums already and that seems to be beyond the comprehension of many folks as I spend a lot of time moving stuff around to the proper forum. Adding sub-forums requires and additional step for folks to post.

I like the concept, i'm just concerned that, in practice, it could be a confusing mess.

I'll let Danny and the other mods ring in.

For what it's worth, I also like the idea of a forum for all the socio/political topics to go.

Are you implying that FHOP harbors heated political discussions?

Wait until you go to an Italian or Greek coffee shop and listen to the locals “discussing” the political issue of the day. The golf war would seem to be paint-ball shooting in comparison.

that's cool, i would imagine the moving stuff at bit easier, as there would be little ambiguity regarding what's political and what isn't. Well, nevermind, I won't comment, can't say I've had to make judgment calls as such, but I did want to throw in, although it would require an additional step, what better forum to have a form of passive deterrent as such???? lol

It's not technically difficult to move stuff...just extra work and it seems beyond a significant number of posters, particularly new ones, to post things where they belong.

How about we set up a political forum for good political ideas and a bit bucket for trashing the bad ideas. I get to pick which ones go where.

I think this is a good idea, although IMO the politics forum should be a regular forum not a sub-forum of FHOP. Just have it listed right next to FHOP in the forum listing so folks will see it and hopefully use it properly.

Another site I used to frequent a lot did this a couple years back and it really made the "off-topic" forum much more enjoyable for the users. Occaisionally I still check into that politics forum and it's the same folks restating all the same arguments that have been going on for years. They seem happy, and the people who now get to easily ignore them are happy.

What I really want is a simple way to View All New Posts Except FHoP. Now I have to go to View New Posts and carefully pick Toyota Prius Forums, Other Cars, Environmental Discussion, PriusChat Website Questions, PriusChat Marketplace, Toyota Prius Community, and Local Clubs.

The forum structure of PriusChat needs some gardening. Prune some, combine some, put FHoP in the mulch pile, separating out the toxic political stuff...

Hmmm. Why not cater to Squid's weaknesses and just give him his own forum? As long as he stays in his room, he can make all the noise he wants, and the rest of us can leave anytime. Brilliant.
