Friends: 1 | Hi. inuyasha, Your factory warranty covers EVERYTHING [except wear items like w/s wiper blades, light bulbs (but if you have HID headlight failures & complain loudly enough, they will be covered or you will be reimbursed),& tires (maybe, maybe not)]. But you only have until your factory warranty expires to be able to get the official Toyota Financial Services extended warranty. So you need to do it before you reach whichever comes first of 36,000 miles or 3 years from your "in-service" date (which may be earlier than your delivery date since some dealers sometimes change your "in-service" date to help their sales figures for the previous month in their sales reports to Toyota). You can have your dealer look up (by your VIN #) & give you the official "in-service" date from Toyota's internal web site so you won't be caught by surprise if they did change it. If you have any kind of problem with your car while it is still under the factory warranty, it will not prevent you from buying the official Toyota Financial Services extended warranty as long as you do it before the original factory warranty expires, but that could be a problem in buying a 3rd party warranty like your dealer sells [& his warranty only covers repairs done at his dealership, while the official Toyota extended warranty (like the one sold by Troy/Warranty Shack/PriusChat) covers repairs done at any Toyota dealership anywhere in the country]. I hope this helps you. One more thing. You may want to wait closer to the factory warranty expiration date [but don't cut it too close, as some have reported Troy to be a little slow in getting back to their e-mail or snail mail inqueries (use the telephone instead)] to better assess your annual mileage accumulation. If you drive a lot of miles per year, then figure how long it will take you to reach 100,000 miles & buy a warranty that has a shorter duration. In my case I bought from Troy [against his advice (but I thought my high miles the first year were only going to be a temporary thing)] a 7yr/100,000 mile/$0 deductible warranty, but it would have saved me money going for one of the shorter duration ones because I will reach the 100,000 mile limit before the end of 5 years. So I paid extra $ for the 2 extra years I won't be able to use. Ken (in Bolton,Ct) Last edited by Ct. Ken V; 12-04-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

that makes a whole lot of sense. My dealer was been a really good salesman with alot of scare tactics(work on my wife). I will have to plan my purchase of extended warranty accordingly too as I might reach 36k in maybe less than two years. Now, would someone in this forum please respond to this message that you have used the warranty bought thru Troy, so I can tell my wife who is a little sceptic. She has no idea how we can buy through Troy and still use it at our local Toyota dealers. Thanks!

Friends: 0 | Hi, I filled out the Warranty Shack Quote form and have not received any reply? I have a quote from another site, Troy at Greenfield in MA. I will have to take his offer, it is considerably cheaper than the what the dealership offered but not 700.00? I am wondering how long it takes to get a quote from Warranty Shack and if the out of state warranty will be recognized by my dealership? I need to cancel mine by 12/10/08 |

$1055 is the current price for Toyota's best and longest extended - Toyota Extra Care - Plantinum Plan - 7 years/100,000 miles/$0 deductible. All Toyota dealerships in the US (and I think Canada) are required to honor this Toyota extended warranty. If you're getting anxious, you can try calling Troy: Troy Dietrich Direct Dial # (413) 772-0989 General Office # (413) 772-0231 Good luck.

Friends: 0 | OMG, I was swindled... and Carson City Toyota is tops in the nation for Customer Service, hmm? I just (12/1/9) bought a super white 2009 #2 no miles (up to 4 b/c mechanic putting on tires and etc gassing up) for just under $32K...that includes: $2495 for 6yr/100K (Extended Service? plan), about $2000 in taxes (locally 7.1% or 7.2% not sure), the windshield protection, BG oil change for 100K plan, and gap insurance about $400, If i recall correctly and I think since its $480 approx a month interest rate. so I still owe $26000 after the $5800 down payment. I can pay this off in 13 to 17 months. I was told the $2495 plan if never used would be fully refunded.....nothing about at the end of 6yrs/100k actually you did use it as you prius chat members are saying...even if I made no claims she said Id get it all back. She also said doesn't offer car to use just their van to bring to them and back home use. windshield protection...about $7 a month for 72 months..felt in Nevada and dirt roads was worth it. BG oil change plan..asked she said only Toyota offers it, didn't ask about competitors to BG but at about $7 a month for 72 months and 4-7mpg increase plus other things it does and I have them at home with me felt it was worth it...covers 20 oil changes...this is an addition to the oil change. Gap insurance for life of the payments 6yrs and since I should be able to pay it off in 1.5 yrs and mom said hartford probably wont cover what gap is supposed to, I decided to get it as I will get back the % of it I don't. So. Id get about 75% back or $300. I did not get other things but of note I didn't get a maintenance plan nor the bra which didn't cover much of the car for the price they were quoting. As far as maintenance...My local Midas is offering a $65 transfer fee (as I already have a oil change plan with Midas) and then now instead of $5 I think its close but under $15 ($12.95?) each time I use it and I can have my oil changed at any Midas for the life of the car as long as Im the owner...and he promises he knows Toyota's...not sure what he charges for the 30K intervals etc that need changing but Im sure it will be fair....Now I could do it myself as well...first Id have to be taught but one the local Auto Zone etc stores make it seem a ripoff to do it your own compared to Midas besides I am really concerned Id mess up either if the work or documentation so Id void the warranty. $875 for 4y 55K seems outrageous that Danny at priuschat is offering. Also didn't get the scan gauge nor a navigation tool nor the sun visor for the touch screen, mot likely will buy those in the future. As far as the bra, nice idea esp if I want to sell it in 3-5yrs if the New Prius is that much better and or it will last 15-30 yrs so I have a looks new very old Prius. but since it covers so little, is there something else? So, now Tony in Mass, quotes Priuschat users a $1055? 7yr100K that covers 5 days of take home car. and I paid $2495 6yr/100K (could have been 7yrs but I drive 15K a year and in 2 yrs it could be 30k or more so get my money back a yr earlier, thank you very much) no take home car, holy moly! And are we sure I still technically use either one, even if I make no claims? my financial officer at Toyota said this was a no brainer b/c you do get your money back if no claims. Please please help me out of the mess I guess I put myself in. There were like 15 or more Prii on the lot both certified pre owned and new but he didn't accept AAA or Costco for new nor went down very much, less than $1000, but sure added up quick even though gas was $1.85/g and winter and they didn't sell much last month and the uncertain future! Main help is the 2495 no car vs 1055 w/ car and w/ on vacation $100. But also maintence plan vs Midas vs do it myself. druth8x Costco and AAA memberships I drive 40mi a day delivering 575 papers and have 66 stops have to press P and shift into d again and about 100 tubes so I have to come very close to stopping so right now I get 28-29mpg in low 20s F but approx 40mpg for no stopping like to the route and back home or in my 35mph 2mi zone in my route and I can even get it to a lot higher and many times no gas usually only a few seconds as the mph goes down to fast but a gradual lift will keep no gas and mph will not go down as fast. If there is anything else I should know or you want to know plz ask. Last edited by druth8x; 12-07-2008 at 10:43 PM. Reason: spelling grammer |

Friends: 0 | Hello, Okay I am lost. I just went to a "not-so-local" Toyota dealer (60 miles away) and picked up a 2009 Prius. It is a package two so nothing fabulaous, but the local dealer is NOT allowing them on his lot except by Order. When he gets them he charges $1000 above MSRP... he is actually just sending his allotment up to the CHIAGO area 150mi away. I know this as I went to his other lot and they had 7 of them (not the one my wife wanted). However in Lafayette, IN they are only gotten by order and he is still quoting a 4 month wait. SO I called over to another town and Lo- and behold they had the exact model my wife has wanted... WHITE with package two coming in the next day. I put a deposit and went to pick it up. Anyways, my question is this; At the dealer the finance manager tried to sell me all of the usual stuff... 1) Undecoating, rustproofer, fabric guard etc etc. I explained to him that I did not need that these items wil be completed by Ziebart (who I think is the best- and I have a family discount there). He subsequently went on to discussing extended warranties. He asked me if I wanted the Extended Warranty. I said well I would like to think about that for a couple days- can I just order it within the next couple weeks or maybe within the first 1000 miles? He said... NO! It is now or never! I was perplexed, but I decided on those terms it would be NO... SO He handed me a sheet of paper and told me to sign it admitting I had been offered a warranty and said No to it. OKAY? Then he asked me if I wanted a service plan... he told me that I must get my service done at his shop if I buy it and that it was almost $1500. Since his dealership is so far away, I again said NO THank You, and again I had to sign something saying I was offered these items. Then I said "YOU mean Toyota will not offer these to a new car buyer again ( I know others have offered them after the sale). He said NO- that is your one chance and you refused it. HUH? WTF? Okay my question is... I actually may have considered these items... but I did not like the approach being used on me... NOW OR ELSE! I also did not like the fact that he wanted me to pay the $3000 + that he quoted on the spot for these items. I know that I got a decent deal on the car as most of it was done over the phone. I paid 23105 (total) for a car with a 24869 MSRP. He gave me what the Black book said was the high end for my trade- so I am okay with that. DID I just upset the finance/sales manager... or will I actually be able to buy these items again? The posts about warranties for Toyota are old so I figured I would ask. THANKS FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE... needless to say: the toyota new car delivery survey will have a few statements about this one person at that dealership. My salesman was great, the Maintenance supervisor that they let me talk to with questions, was very nice, everyone but the guy who had the "TAKE IT NOW OR ELSE" was great! |

Friends: 0 | This sounds like a great "deal". After much discussion and "dealing", I was able to get my dealer (Don Ringler Toyota-Temple,TX) to offer 6yr/75,000 with no deductible for $945. Of course, this took place before finding this site/opportunity. Day late - dollar short. |

Extended Warranty: You have up to 3 years/36,000 miles to get the Toyota extended warranties. The Toyota extended warranties available here through Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA must be honored by any and all Toyota dealers in the US. I'm of the opinion that you should wait until you get close to the 3 years/36,000 miles mark to decide (a) whether to get an extended warranty and, if applicable, (b) which one to get in terms of years/miles. Maintenance Agreement: I think you have up to the time of the first scheduled maintenance item to get the Toyota maintenance agreement. However, unlike the Toyota extended warranties, these Toyota maintenance agreements do not have to be honored by all Toyota dealers. You need to check with your particular dealer(s) before buying the agreement to see if they will honor it. I'm of the opinion that these maintenance agreements are not worth it, and I would never get one. You should call Troy if you have other questions about this. Congrats, good luck and enjoy.

Friends: 0 | Just got my 7/75 Toyota Platinum for $760 from Troy at Greenfield / Warranty Shack. He was helpful in sharing different options with me and not at all pushy. I would recommend him. Did the whole transaction by phone and fax. He sent the receipts within a few days and I got the warranty info from Toyota within a couple of weeks. Everything seems to be in order. Would recommend them to anyone. My dealer (at time of purchase) wanted $1500 for the warranty (7/100) and never explained the other mileage or time options to me. It was pretty much take it or leave it. Glad I left it and held the $ for 3 years and determined how many miles I would need the extended warranty for. Plus, had I gotten in an accident that totaled the car during the regular warranty period, the $ for the extended warranty would have been flushed down the toilet. Definitely wait until you approach 3 years / 36k miles to get it. Last edited by TimBikes; 12-19-2008 at 02:51 AM. |
