Friends: 37 | Yes, please help support PriusChat by purchasing it through WarrantyShack, and don't ruin it for everyone else by mentioning the deal to your dealer. We've already gotten into some trouble because of some dealerships complaining.

Friends: 0 | For the next two years (maybe more if I don't retire) I'll be getting 6-7 oil changes per year (30-35K miles/year). My dealer gives free oil changes (although they haven't committed to them on the Prius yet because of the synthetic oil). Assuming (1) They meet their commitment (2) I'm not a DIY Is the extended maintenance worth it without oil changes? It seems I'd be missing the most frequently used benefit for it. Thanks, |

No, if you're getting free oil changes from your local dealer it wouldn't be worth it for the maintenance plan. BTW, Toyota Auto Care doesn't cover the cost of synthetic oil. It covers the cost of standard motor oil which meets Toyota's specifications for the vehicle. If you wanted synthetic, you would be required to pay the difference in cost between them. Troy

Thanks. But I thought Toyota's specification for the 2010 Prius was for 0W-20 oil which is only synthetic now. I'm confused. Rich N.

I have just run into this question many times where people prefered to use synthetic, when oil meeting Toyota's specs was available in the regular form...in that case, they would just pay for the difference in the cost. Troy

Friends: 22 | I wouldn't be surprised if the cost of the pre-paid maintenance plan for the 2010 Prius goes up a few dollars because of its 0w-20 synthetic oil requirement. |

Friends: 0 | Yeah, TFS will be getting a lot of complaints if dealers have to use synthetic oil without additional reimbursement. Currently the cost of the Auto Care maintenance plan is the same for all models of Toyota. Maybe they'll come out with tiered pricing based on model like they do with the warranty plans....or as VW does it, add a surcharge to the cost of the plan for synthetic oil use. |

Friends: 0 | Not to worry. I didn't even mention this to the dealer. I will go through Warrantyshack and mention Priuschat. I am going to wait a while to make sure I'm happy with the TCH and going to keep it. Then I will purchase through WarrantyShack. |

Friends: 0 | Proud new owner of a 2009 package 5 as of last night here. The closer tried very hard to get me to buy the 7/100k platinum warranty for $1500. He told me that the full price of the warranty would be refunded at the end of the 7/100k if I never made a claim. Is that true? |
