Hello again, well we here at RR Electronics, Hall of Science Division, constantly strive to come up with new and interesting mods for our beloved Prius....:D

This months submission is combination White DRL and Amber Turn Signal in one bulb, well sorta like this ....see...

Here you can see my turn signal sockets are bright white, Cool, a usable and visible DRL!! Now here they are with both bulbs Amber... I triggered the emergency flashers.

Now this project does require some skills, but it is not that hard. If you have no clue what a wire stripper, Dremel, or soldering pencil are, you should ask for help, those of you who do know, lets dig in!!!

The following pics are the bulbs that make the project viable.... All bulbs and the Brown 7443 socket used in this project were purchased from.

www.autolumination.com Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs

This is the switchback bulb. You will want 2 of these, I chose the 60 LED AW mode model. It will require a 7443 socket, but we will get to that later. Also..

These are the rear Amber turn signal, and Superwhite back up lights. You will need 2 of the 7440 series of each color....

I want to thank "sfv41901" for finding this relay, and here is the link and Pic.. ;)
Toyota Lexus 8 Pin 12V Electronic LED Flasher Blinker Bulbs Relay Fix

OK, the next set of items you will need are a pair of the existing lamp sockets that are already in your Prius. It's Toyota PN# 90075-60028 they were $10 each at my local dealer, well worth the price. You could use your existing set, but I wanted the ability to undo the MOD if ever necessary. So, this is the route I went. Besides the "O" ring that comes with the Toyota socket is better, smaller than the one on the next socket your going to buy. That other socket that you need is this one, a 7443 3 Wire Dual Circuit....

You will want 2 of the Brown ones, the 7443 sockets. These are not exact replacements, but with the help of a Dremel Tool they can easily be modified. that's the next set of pics
    ....

OK, let me explain the set of above pics. The tabs that hold the bulb in are close enough to the Prius socket to make this mod work. Follow the pictures, and use the Dremel to remove portions of the Brown plugs tabs so it will fit into the housing. DO NOT PROCEED until BOTH new sockets slip in and out of the Prius Turn Signal housing easily without the bulb in the socket, well why make the work harder than you have too!!!!

Once the sockets are machined, we have to solder their wires to the new Toyota socket we bought to make this a "Plug and somewhat play" installation... This involves Positive and Negative stuff, so 3 more pics..

    First the "Positive Side"

    Now the Negative Side...

Now we will have to solder the Red and Black wires from the Brown Plug to the Toyota Plug...

Here is what the completed harness should look like.. you will note the White LED power leads, one is RED, and the other is BLACK, be careful, check the plugs wiring and follow the previous pics!!!

OK, now just plug into front Turn signal housing and this portion is completed. The next step is to replace the Flasher module...

    and then swap modules.

Now we move on to the rear of the car, we replace the white 7440 Back-up lamps with 60 LED Super white, and the turn signals with 60 LED Amber LEDS..this also has a typo, it's 140 ma, not 14, sorry!

4 bulbs, 2 white, 2 amber, now carefully insert them to their respective holes, OK there, Done!!!

Now, lets solder up the Super white portion of the Switchback bulb and wire to ACC power...

Now we move on to finding Ready mode power in the fuse box...

Be sure to fill hole with Black Silicon sealer... you do not need water getting in there!!

This is what the bulb looks like in the front socket...it draws 140 ma, not 14, as wording in pic indicates, my BAD a typo!!

I have wired them so they are on day or night. I might just add a relay so they will switch off when the HID's are on at night! They are quiet bright next to the HID's
Here is the Current draw for BOTH lamps on together... 270ma, not bad!!

Here is the Rear Turn signal LED...

and that pretty much wraps the installation. So far they work great look great and the Turn Signal switches from Super white to Amber with no black in between!!!

I now have NO incandescent bulbs in the car....
    Waddya ya'll think...?????

    Gotta love LEDs :D

How are they in direct sunlight?

If nothing else.....you just helped people find a ACC line under the hood.

FYI......the link in the other thread isnt working

When the signal is flashing, are the amber LED and white LED on at the same time? If it is does the amber over power the white? If the amber LED is bright enough to over power the white LED is the white LED bright enough to serve as DRL?

This bulb comes in 2 modes, AW, AO. AW flashes between White, Amber. Both colors are NOT on at the same time. The AO model turns white off completely until Amber flashing is finished, then white again!
Yes the white by itself is bright enough for a DRL!

Toyota Lexus 8 Pin 12V Electronic LED Flasher Blinker Bulbs Relay Fix

There are two locking tabs you will have to remove, they are not needed, but it in NO WAY affects the electrical operation. It's a 1 for 1 plug in!!!
    It works PERFECT! AND...
Yes, it will flash your LEDS when you arm the Alarm!

Mod completed. NICE. Perfect instructions KK6PD. Of course I had to have my wife follow me while I checked out the brightness and turn signal. Again Nice. Sunny bright day easily seen. Now off to see how much EV I save NOT running the HID's as driving lights.

I see there is a 120led. Just more side led with the same front led. 60led is plenty. Amber is easily seen along with the white . It is just a turn signal amber not driving lights so no worries really about brightness however they work well and can be seen easily.

Where did you see 120 LED switchbacks? The most I found was 92 LED switchbacks from V-LED and they dont even have it for the 7443. Also the cost is outrageous at $83.99

ok, I'll bite. How much would you pay. I did the mod. It's allot of work for the fabrication and the biggest issue EVERYONE comments about is warranty. Brightness is a matter of opinion also - which everyone freely expresses to death. From comments about coastaltech products, Sometimes if you make it easy, people think it should be close to free. The install takes a few hours AFTER you make the modifications to the holder. There is more than a small portion to take apart and you have to be aggressive.

An aside, I noticed the first week I can stay in EV mode another mile without as much battery drain running with HID on as DRL.
    Sweet.

Also you can use a 6 ohm resistor (don;t know the wattage) rather than the led relay turn signal. (one resistor for each led bulb). Probably not a cost savings.
