I've read multiple threads regarding first oil change, etc. but most of them are aged by now regarding the Gen III.

so, i wanna get the current reports on what the consensus is on doing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on oil changes. Here, almost 5 months into ownership i'm ashamed of myself for not knowing more about how the ICE functions on a startup/shutdown cycling perspective, how this affects engine wear, etc.

I first changed my oil at 1000 miles and am at about 5700 now wondering when to change it next.

    thanks!

10,000 miles and every year or 10,000 miles after that.

I first changed my oil to synthetic at 1000 miles. Ever since then, I change my synthetic oil every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs earlier -- which in my case has been every 12 months.

I'm following the Canadian schedule: 6 months or 8000 km. One change so far, 6 month interval governed.

Did my transfluid at 30,000 miles.

I got my oil changed at 5013 and 5016 miles.

The dealer put in the wrong oil and I got it changed again. A complete waste of time, but a free engine flush I suppose.

My car came with the synthetic 0w-20 in it I did my first oil change at 1,073 miles and will do the next one between 10k and 11k miles. I decided to go for the full 10k mile interval.
Right now I have 9,xxx miles so I should be doing it soon.

Oil and filter, first at 1500, then 5K, and again at 10K because the requirement was every 5K at that time.

Since 10K I have changed every 10K and will continue to do so.

First transaxle fluid change at 20K, the analysis indicated that was a good mileage for the first change. I will do the next one at 50K and have it analyzed. I will then decide on a change interval, probably either 30K or 50K.

you make a dozen posts throughout any given day. so, you may have the impression you see these often.

hence, "current consensus" as things evolve. this is a newish model. toyota has a history of sludge on certain models. i still have yet to gain a knowledgeable understanding of the technology involved in this drivetrain from any of the previous 999 threads.

so, here's to you, mister-apparent-forum-owner-guy, you stand atop us lesser 2 posts per weekers...if the thread title doesn't interest you don't dick on it.

I did my first at about 3500 miles. The toyota service manager tried to talk me out of it, said I didn't need it until 10k miles. I now have about 9K miles on the car and the oil is not even discolored yet.

I bought in March 2011 a Toyota Prius 2011 model.
When I bought this car it came with a 2yr free maintance program.
My car notified me I was due for a oil change at roughly 4000 plus miles.

My new Prius (from Feb 2011) also gave me an "oil maintenance reminder" shortly after 4k miles, but the service folks explained that the car's computer wasn't updated from the 2010 model that shipped with a 5k service interval. But you can still use it as a reminder to rotate your tires! :D

Of course, if I wasn't on the included 25k maintenance plan, I figure they would've loved for me to pay for oil changes every 5k.

Changed it per dealer & Toyota instructions.

After the first 5000 miles & every 5000 miles after that.
FWIW: They also rotate the tires.
