PriusChat's own usbseawolf2000 has posted some very interesting details about the 2012 Prius Plug-In over in the "Prius PHV Plug-In Updates?" thread. Among the information he has received is an email that looks like his dealer sent out a little early and is meant to be an email blast once Toyota officially announces the final details for the Plug-In. The highlights:
    • The Plug-In will be offered in 5 colors
    • 2 trims will be available; perhaps a standard and a premium package?
    • Buyers will be able to track the building of their car and the shipment from Japan.
    • Deliveries are scheduled to being in March/April 2012
Here is the full email sent:
Type in your browser: www.toyota.com/prius/plugin/dealer/31130 If you like what you see, you can order with our Dealership online, there are 4 Steps to your online order, and they are: 1.) Configure
    • Choose your color-choose one of 5 colors
    • Pick your trim-The Prius Plug-In comes in 2 flavors
    • Add Accessories-Don’t forget to add your accessories
    2.) Place
    • Select Competition Toyota as your Dealer.
    • Submit an Order-Send your configured order, this step secures you a car, but not a place online. After you place the order, you will have 3 days to confirm it or the order expires.
    • Arrange your financing if applicable.
    • Place a deposit-Provide us with a $500.00 deposit.
    • Confirm your order-once the order is approved you will receive a final order agreement, Sign the agreement, confirm the order and you’re ready to go-this step is critical as it gets your order in line to be built.
    3.) Track
    • Watch-As your order is processed, we will provide you information every step along the way. Track your vehicle as we the parts are assembled, the car is built and then shipped.
    • Discuss-Can’t wait for your Plug-In? Find others who can’t either. Check our Facebook page or fan sites like PriusChat to talk about the Prius Plug-In.
    • Install-The Plug-In only requires standard 120V outlets with 15 Amp spare capacity. But you can have 240V charging if you’d like.
    4.) Drive
    • Sign-We will contact you when your car is about to arrive at Competition Toyota. At this time you can arrange all your final terms.
    • Get the Keys-Pick up your car. Happy Motoring!
    • The first deliveries are tentatively scheduled for March/April 2012
PriusChat is currently working on creating a network of "PriusChat Certified" dealerships that will offer a discount on the Plug-In's MSRP price. As soon as that network is complete, we will announce it in the PriusChat Plug-In forum. Thanks, usbseawolf2000!

    From the Prius Plug-in site!
"We'll notify you by e-mail when the Priority Order Window opens so you can come back and reserve your Plug-in. Also, stay tuned for some exciting stuff we have in the works for our early registrants!"

Well, Cashcorn, I feel the same way. I would like to think that Toyota is aware of that and maybe will reveal the production version with details at some autoshow in the fall. The website says: "Stay tuned for some exiting stuuf we have in the works for our early registrants", well, it probably going to be good!

Easy there cowboy, you're probably looking at getting some news this fall about something to happen next spring. I wouldn't be racing home to check your inbox every day or anything.

I was hoping at least for a monthly update? The website tease is there. However, I feel sales/customer support is lacking. What gives? I've also been following Tesla's model s. They have a monthly newsletter, which is always informative & keeps the expected customer interest at ease..

I am with you on this. I think you are absolutely right, a newsletter would generate some buzz on the web and keep interest high. I would like to know how many people have signed up so far. As of now, we don't even know if the car is going to have a mid-cycle refresh for the 2012 model year.

I love the package but I don't use the self park to be honest. I can park the car myself much faster. The DRCC is awesome on road trips and I personally like using the LKA in conjunction with it. If the road markings are faint yeah it's not worth using because it will beep alot but for the most part it works like it should.

That being said, I would like to see on the Plug in DRCC and LKA offered with the LED headlamps, but without the 17" rims. I love the look of the 17" rims over the 15" BUT on a plug in they simply would hurt mileage too much for me. If anything, give us LED headlamps with the 15" rims on the plug in, but they really shouldn't force the 17's on us just to get LED headlamps on the plug in.

My opinion is that its not likely to be out long before mid-year anyway so a mid-year update is unlikely.

I share the same feelings about the Plug-in options, keep the 17" for the extra buck besides the extra electronics.
But I would love to see the LED headlights as an "option" by itself through out the Prius line.

I think the online ordering system is appropriate for the Prius plug-in, but Toyota should have made it available to all 50 states with local dealers delivery. They would have had a better outlook of what the demand, in terms of numbers, could be.

Let's face it, if you don't have access to a plug, garage, driveway, you are not going to buy a plug-in, so this car should probably be ordered.

I'd have to agree. I personally think Toyota will miss a wonderful marketing opportunity with just a few states. Also I think they are also missing a great marketing opportunity by not keeping the "sign-ups" not informed about the status of decisions. Or at least allowing us to vote on options which we think are important to us. Seriously, Toyota should remember we are not driving just battery packs but cars.
