    Peugeot are releasing the worlds first diesel electric hybrid vehicle - The Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4;

    http://www.peugeot.co.uk/Resources/Content/brochures/range/peugeot-3008-hybrid4-brochure.pdf

    Interesting system but not as good as the Prius. I suppose they'd have difficulties switching the diesel engine on and off all the time. Still, at least it's another hybrid option hitting the roads and that's always a good thing and fuel economy with a diesel engine should be excellent.

    The following link doesn't give details of the hybrid version but gives you a flavour of the traditional 3008.

    lol OK OK. I guess they're saying the first diesel hybrid that can run on an EV only mode, which we all know shows the sign of a proper hybrid (sorry Honda ;) )

    Doesn't seem anywhere near as clever as the Toyota HSD system...although they don't give any details in that brochure...."electronically controlled 6 speed manual gearbox"...I haven't looked very hard but no details on the size of the battery but probably somewhere near the same size as the Prius I would have thought...

    Did I read that right it's a 74 mpg (EURO, which is higher than US, but still way higher than prius) in combined cycle with 200 horsepower and 4wd or am I just picking and choosing bits out of the link?

    You did read right BUT it is based on the larger UK gallon (4.5 litres) AND the Euro testing proceedure. Under this the Prius gets 72.43 mpg and a CO2 of 89g/km. The Peugeot gets 74 mpg but 99g/km.

    I'm guessing there must be some picking and choosing of mpg figures with the Peugeot. Perhaps the highway rating of 74 mpg is used whereas the city rating is not as good as the Prius. The Toyota mpg of 72 is pretty much the same for city and highway and hence the lower overall CO2 rating.

    Still, the Peugoet is an economical vehicle though it would be interesting to see the fuller figures in due course.

    UPS delivery trucks in the US get switched on and off far more often than a Prius and they have a truck sized conventional diesel. They get turned off everytime the driver leaves the truck which may be multiple time per block. It doesn't seem to be a problem for their large engines (probably about 6 liters or more), so it should be easier for Peugeot with their 1.9L engine

    Excellent news, I think it is very smart. Diesels are very efficient on the highway anyways so why not just let it run and be efficient.

    It basically combines a VW TDi and a Prius.

    Can't wait to see some reviews and real-world performance.
