    Hey all,

My prius is coming up for its 10K mile service and just wondering what is required...not what the dealer would love to tack on, but the bare manual minimum that is required? I called the dealer in socal and he said an oil change, tire rotation, brake inspection and safety inspection are part of the minor service and costs 70 bucks. Was wondering if this was worth it, or if there is another option that is less expensive and is only is what is required?

    Thanks

Have you checked the manual? The bare minimums are listed.

It's in that separate book. $70 and dealer's description sounds reasonable.

$70 bucks is reasonable, but he may be quoting you the price for regular oil. There is usually a $20-$30 upcharge for 0w-20.

Around here, the 10k minor service with 0w-20 ranges between $85-$100. The 5k service in-between, with no oil change, is $39 at my dealer.

minimum service required is 100,000 oil change diy, tire rotation diy, brake inspection take front tire off and look for urself, what kind of safety inspection are they going to do. I have over 400,000 on my 2009 prius my car never saw the dealer except for getting wheel alignment. But hey (diy=do it urself) if u want to give away money give it to me.

That's a reasonable price, assuming it included the synthetic oil surcharge.

The warranty/maintenance booklet lists scheduled service items per interval.

You can skip tire rotations if you like as there's no warranty on OEM tires anyway.

Bought mine in March of 11 and the first services thru 25k are free. Guess you must have purchased before the Toyotacare promo started.
