For me, it replaced having to rent a car (usually a minivan or SUV) everytime my daughter and I had a conflict of who needed the '05 Prius for the day on a weekend. I expect my v will get used on Saturday to take a small fleet of planes to the RC airfield about 30 minutes away and occasionally to other airfields in central + northern CA for contests, on Sunday to go to Church so I can serve at both services and get there early (I'm an Anglican Deacon) and my wife + daughter can come to just one on their own schedule, and very occasionally during the week when I'm not up to riding my bike to work but need to be in the office.

Peter, don't forget to vote in the poll.

I knew I'd forget a classification or two. Hopefully a mod can add mini-van to the choices. I can't believe I forgot that one as that's what I traded in on my 2010.:embarassed:

our new prius v (we got a Five without the ATP) replaced a tried and true '98 chrysler sebring convertible. We needed the extra space so our passengers coudl more easily get in and out, we wouldnt have to put the top down to get luggage in for a long trip, and so that we may have one day room for a little one.

2001 Ford Focus 4 dr sedan. My wife really wanted a small SUV, we were looking at the Honda CR-V and the Chevy Equinox. I knew the big Prius was in the works. Then on June 18th Dan Neil of the Wall Street Journal wrote a great piece about the v.

I got my wife to read the article and she was sold, then the waiting game began. Today we are proud owners of our new v. Thank you and shout out to Dan Neil of the WSJ.:D

I tried to add it before anyone had even voted but it wouldn't allow me. Hopefully a moderator or admin can add it as that's a very important category.

Replaced our 2007 Mazda 5. Voted other as I really never figured out what a Mazda 5 really is.
Ok It says midsized stationwagon. I guess I voted wrong sorry. I know it was never called a minivan in our house as my wife wouldnt drive a minivan.

I added a link to the first post to help figure out what class your former ride is (was).

Replaced 2005 Prius that was right up to the end of its 7yr/100k warranty. Two kids getting bigger and this was the best solution for our family. We love it. All the noise about lower MPG are meaningless if the Standard Prius no longer fits your needs. I wou
Don't call it gutless as my expectations may be different. We have a Cayenne Turbo for other occasion like ski/snow trips but it is costly to drive it everywhere everyday like we have always used our Prius.

Replaced a 2000 Honda CRV. I was looking for something that got better gas mileage, comfortable ride, sat a bit higher, and easy to get in/out of (I'm getting old)...

So far sizewise, it reminds me a lot of the 06 Mazda5 that we had (same color), but it differently doesn't drive like it. However, I am enjoying the softer ride of the V.

Replacing our trusty 2005 Sienna Ltd. Giving up some space but a huge improvement in mileage and driving around town!

It will be in the stable with our 2010 Prius 3.

Thinking of getting a Prius V to replace my 1999 Honday Odyssey.. Gotta do some more research over the long term ownership costs (10 to 15 years) and see if it makes sense to own one.

Unfortunately you didn't add "it isn't replacing anything" :( For me, my kids started driving and although I normally bike ride, suddenly I didn't have a choice. Winter is coming on and I like the option to be lazy.

I'm curious about the minivan people.

Is this downsizing as children aged, or that the increase in cargo space and improved rear-seat ergonomics allowed you to use a Prius v?

Ours replaced a 2002 ford Explorer. The Explorer was a nice ride, but had several expensive breakdowns after the original warranty expired. It will be nice to get more than 16 to 18 mpg.

Just got home to AZ with our spankin' new Prius v 5. (Thanks for the great deal and service, Dianne). It is replacing our 2009 Prius Touring. Now we have a 2012 Prius v, a 2009 Prius Base and a 2007 Mazda MX-5 (aka Miata). That just about covers the spectrum of vehicles necessary for a happy life.

Ours isn't replacing but joining a 08 FEH. Managing a couple years with the Escape as our only vehicle, we were allowed to patiently wait for a family car that could match or beat it's efficiency. And I'm glad to say it finally arrived...
