Thanks Ken - are there any rumors of a PHV Prius v Plug yet?

That's about 3 kWh (26.4/8.74) usable power from the 4.4 kWh battery pack. I am not sure if it includes the charging loss. The electric power consumption rate is under JC08 test cycle which is less aggressive than the EPA cycle.

As for comparison, Leaf's electricity consumption under JC08 come out to 8.33 km/kWh (200km/24kWh). PiP can go further than Leaf for a given amount of electricity!

Mitsubishi MiEV can go 9.09 km/kWh. It is a smaller and lighter car without gas engine so it is more efficient.

Under EPA figure, MiEV is rated 30 kWh/100mi and Leaf with 34 kWh/100mi. PiP should be between the two so my guess would be 32 kWh/100mi.

The 3 kWh is AC consumption value for charging, therefore it includes the charging loss.

    That's correct.
The other spec says PiP is 114 Wh/km and Leaf is 124 Wh/km.

This same news release said that Toyota will raise Prius (2012) prices when the c hits the market since that car will be the entry piece and they can increase Prius profit margins. It will be interesting to see if the the great deals on the 2011's will tighten up as the inventory gets depleted?

This is confusing. I assume the Prius HEV is different than the Plug-in Prius launching in the US. Does this mean the US version will also get the slightly higher EV range?

YMMY. It's the same reason why the Prius has a higher mpg rating than what the EPA gives. It's a different testing method.

Plus, in North America the EV cut off speed for the the Prius PHV is 62mph. In Europe, and likely Japan, it's 58mph. This will likely have a effect in the different tests.

I'd like to see the graph of speed vs distance. Hopefully, with careful driving we can push that EV range to ~20 miles.

I don't know where you get the 58 mph number, but the JP press release says the EV speed is up to 100 km/h (62 mph).

I remember reading that the EV to hybrid switchover happened at 58mph for European models. Perhaps it was a conversion error of the 100km/hr.
