Browse button is greyed out when an iPhone 4S (iOS 5) is connected using Bluetooth. Browse button is not greyed out when connected with iPod cable.

iPhone bluetooth does not seem to be very well supported by the Display Audio radio (with or without navigation). For example, Entune works only with the cable. No idea when Toyota is even aware of this problem. I do plan to contact them about this.

From what I read on a different forum, the fancier system on the v 5 with the AT package seems to support iPhones much better via bluetooth.

I can see the lack of Entune support for Bluetooth due to power drain using 3G or 4G, but music streaming with playlist browsing via Bluetooth should be a no brainer. Come on Toyota, fix this. Although in the manual Toyota leaves themselves an out by stating that your Bluetooth screens may differ based upon smart phone used. I wanted the better head unit that the AT package offers, but at almost $6000 I opted for the mid range audio with navigation. I guess you get what you pay for (or not pay for).

Hmmmmmmmm... there couldn't be a correlation between the fact that Toyota is "in bed" with Microsoft and the problem is only happening with the iPhone... Could there?

I don't think it's a Microsoft/Toyota issue, I think it's a Toyota issue. An HTC Inspire on Android does not have music browse using Bluetooth. Does Bluetooth streaming work properly on the better 7 inch head unit? If so, I believe a Toyota firmware update is in order for the midrange head unit.

Same issue here with a 3GS and 4 iphones. We don't even get a browse button when we are connected and the only way it will display track / artist info is if I pause then play. It will not update track / artist info if the songs are left to run but if I skip back or forwards the track / artist info updates.... kind of ennoying. The interface when it is plugged in via usb is much nicer and I really like how it pulls up the album art from the iphone. Only thing is that I always disconnect the usb cord when I leave the car and put it in the glove box so I have to plug the cord and phone back in (usb plug is admittedly in quite and awkward spot) and the music sill not pick up where it left off which is admittedly enoying when it picks up where it left on when bluetooth is connected.

Dude, wake up. They haven't even released a Windows Phone app. They want their customers happy and they know most of them use iPhones. Think before making that kind of claims that some others could even believe.

When the iphone is connected via the USB cable it integrates just fine.

I'm confused. Is there any phone out there the actually has USB style browsing features via bluetooth? Is that supported in any bluetooth profile, let alone one that's actually in use?

Dude... They may care but I'm not seeing any results. I went to my dealership today and the sales manager contacted someone from Toyota Tech. I was told that it was a compatibility issue with the 4s. So... in the meantime, I went as far to downgrade from my 4s to an old 3gs in order to try and fix this issue. Still having issues! It's time Toyota get's serious about this. This should not have even shipped in this state.

iOS 5 doesn't support AVRCP 1.4, only 1.3. That means we finally get metadata, etc. but no playlist browsing. If you want full control of everything, then you have to plug it in via USB.

Totally agree. If one has to dig your phone out to find the song you wish played, it's on par with driving while texting.

You seem very knowledgable... So is this an Apple issue or a Toyota issue?

The no support for browsing / search would be Apple's issue, similar to how they don't support MAP so you can't read texts or e-mail. The cases where metadata isn't showing up while streaming audio with iOS5, etc could be either one or a combination of both.

Bummer is even though Bluetooth is a standard, how well it works varies from device to device because it depends on device makers actually implementing it right.

OK, what current phone DOES support bluetooth browsing in a Prius? Again, the HTC Inspire does not. iPhone 4S does not.

If it supports Bluetooth AVRCP 1.4, then it should work with playlist browsing. Not sure exactly what phones support it, so you'd have to look through the specs of the ones tyou're interested in. I don't think it's all too common yet.

Not necessarily. I nave a new iPod touch and voice control works very well. I have the high end Audio/NAV system in my Gen III Prius V/ATP. If I want to listen to a particular artist or album I just push in the button on my iPod and voice control comes up on the iPod screen and the volume slowly decreases to silence then I can say what I want to hear. Not perfect but better than nothing and I don't have to take my eyes off the road since I keep my iPod in my cup holder in the console so I don't have to look for it. Does Entune work like this?

I thought Entune was going to be the be all end all and sounds like it isn't. Too bad. It's pretty clear that they didn't field test Entune with real drivers and real iPods. How can a company that makes such great cars screw up the entertainment systems so consistently?

ENTUNE is a whole separate item from iPod functionality. But yes, in the new systems you can use voice recognition to select songs, artist, album, etc. from your iPod / iPhone. It takes a few minutes to index your device the first tiem it's plugged in, or after changes, but once done you have control over the device with the voice rec commands.

Can a software update fix this issue with the Iphone? I just got my Prius yesterday and noticed this issue. I was going to complain a lot about this issue, but if there's nothing Toyota can do, I guess I just have to deal with what I have.

If you mean the Bluetooth audio playlist browsing, then no. Apple doesn't yet support it.
