What does this mean on a Toyota Service record?
    "
    WE OFFERED YOU A FA
    "

I searched but I could not find anything on Google.

I am checking the maintenance of a used 2004 Prius with 150k miles w/ navigation. Dealer is offering me $7700 OTD for the car. He says he replaced the battery/inverter with parts from a used 50k prius.

It's been taken to Toyota last week and checked; all codes dumped, and he has a written statement from mechanic there stating that codes did not come back with car driven for about 200-300 miles.

Would you buy or no? What does the "FA" mean? It shows up multiple times on the service report it seems.

I've attached the Toyota service report to this post. Thanks.

At least they didn't say sweet FA. :p

    Free Assessment, maybe?

    Haha. Free Assessment...perhaps?
I was thinking Free Alignment/Front Alignment? But I doubt that they do that for free.

Just wondering, how expensive is the alignment on these cars? Maintenance is my main concern.
Especially with buying a high mileage Prius.

Do you think this is a good buy?

Within the context of the service report I would guess the Front-end Alignment also since they are discussing tires in the preceeding comment.

It doesn't look like the report shows that it was ever done. What do you think? I drove the car and it drives straight.

Would the service report explicitly state transaxle oil changed, etc? Does it go into complete detail?

I was looking at the used prius checklist and I am just trying to verify the transaxle thing. Could this be a good buy? Would be my first Prius...

I do not see the transaxle mentioned in the service report. It shows the HV ECU reflash, the accelerator pedal interference and the inverter water pump TSB performed.

It looks like the car has been well maintained.

Is $7700 out the door from a small dealership a good price for this in NC? I notice you're in NC as well, so figured it's worth asking in case you've seen better.

Is the transaxle something for me to worry about? All the used Prius checklists suggest to negotiate a lower price if we don't know when the last transaxle oil change was.

Where is the battery/inverter replacement listed on the service history? I don't believe a dealer would do this much work & not document it.

In NJ that car would just be coming off warranty. Too many questions for me. I'd pass.

Chances are the transaxle oil is never changed.

That leaves a lot of room to wonder what happened, if the repair person knew what they were doing, and what underlying problems remain unfixed.

Is this a salvage title ?

Do dealers replace Warranty items with used parts? Toyota gives them warranty parts, right?

When I test drove the vehicle last week, I believe I saw a battery pack or something in the trunk. He told us it was the old part and that's why the Prius wasn't up for sale yet as it hadn't been detailed/completely checked yet. The brake light stayed on throughout the test drive and the guy said it was on after the change, but the vehicle ran fine. And it did run fine (to my knowledge at least). He said he would take it to Toyota to have it looked over and dump the codes as only Toyota had the tools required.

The test drive went fine and the dealer took it to Toyota over the weekend to get them to dump the codes and apparently it's been driven for over 300 miles now. I haven't been able to go to the dealership to verify, but the dealer said he can give me the paperwork from Toyota as proof of the miles driven at entry to dealer/exit (test driven by Toyota) and compare it to the miles driven afterwards... and basically provide the clear report from Toyota.

At one point on the phone, I think the dealer even said I could take the old part and test it, etc to see/keep if I really wanted.

Clean Title. Only 2 owners, no accidents.

This is a small dealer. I honestly do not know the real history or how this works. I believe they bought it from an auction as most dealers usually do.

I actually went to the dealer looking for a used Vibe, but found this Prius there and just wanted to test drive it. But when I found out there wasn't much a price difference between the cars, I figured it was worth looking into..
