My dealer just informed me that my PIP will be ready for pickup tonight.
What should I expect to pay out-the-door? The pre-order web site already had a prep & delivery fee included in the $33K total.

    Thanks

If you pre-ordered, then you should've "negotiated" the price prior to accepting the order confirmation from the dealer. Once you accepted the order, then thats the price you would be paying.

If you didn't pre-order and just picked up a orphaned PiP, then it will come down to your "powers of negotiation" I suppose.

What does your contract say? If you don't buy any of the options they are going to try to sell you, the price will be what your initial signed contract says.

There is also tax and license that is NOT included in the agreed upon price so keep that in mind.

What "contract"? I just pre-ordered via the global Toyota site and it gave me a total based on MSRP. Where does the negotiation process fit in the web pre-ordering?

When you pre-ordered you had to assign a dealer. That dealer had to confirm your order for it to go to the factory..,
At that time you would have negotiated the price of the car, and paid a deposit.
If none of this happened, you may not have a Pip after all.
    Otherwises, it
Sounds to me like you'll be paying MSRP + delivery, tax and doc fees.

This is from the Prius Plug-In Page:

4 Steps To Your Online Order
    • 1. Configure
      • Choose your color - Choose one of five (5) colors for your car.
      • Pick your trim - The Prius Plug-in comes in two flavors. Choose yours.
      • Add accessories - Don't forget to add your accessories.
    • 2. Order
      • Select a dealer - Pick the dealer from which you'd like to purchase and pick up your Plug-in.
      • Submit an order - Send your configured order to your selected dealer via the online system. This step secures you a car, but not a place in line. After you place the order, you will have 96 hours to confirm it, or the order expires.
      • Arrange your deal - Contact your dealer to agree upon a price for the vehicle you are ordering. This is a good time to ask other questions about the vehicle, financing options, and trade-in values, if applicable.
      • Place a deposit - Provide your dealer with the $500 deposit.
      • Confirm your order - Once the dealer has approved the order, you will receive a final vehicle order agreement. Sign the agreement online, confirm the order, and you're ready to go. Don't delay – this step gets your order in line to be fulfilled!
    • 3. Track
      • Watch - As your order is processed, we will provide you information along the way.
      • Discuss - Can't wait for your Plug-in? Find others who can't either. Check our Facebook page to talk about the Prius Plug-in.
      • Install - The Plug-in only requires standard 120V outlets with 15-amp spare capacity. But if you want to have 240V charging equipment installed, contact our approved provider, Leviton, to arrange for an estimate at your home.
    • 4. Drive
      • Sign - Your dealer will contact you when your car is scheduled to arrive at the dealership. Arrange your final terms, including financing and your vehicle trade-in, if applicable.
      • Get the keys - Pick up your car at the dealer. Happy driving!

When you went to your dealership and put down the required $500 deposit you should have received a contract that you signed with the agreed price. Shipping is extra as well as state tax. Shipping was included with my final price, some got better deals, I paid msrp. Not all dealerships care to give a price break mine didn't, but they also didn’t boost the price either.

When I pre-ordered, I had to select a dealer and make a 500 deposit and negotiated a price with the dealer for the order to be confirmed (all this had to take place within 3 days of my initial order.
On my order page (online), it shows the price and the dealer name on my order status page, below the photo of the plug in prius :)

OK, I guess I missed the negotiation step. I placed the order and waited for the dealer to call me. He ended up calling me a week before it arrived.
I never had to put any deposit and I had always assumed it was MSRP just like when I reserved my 2006 Prius.

At this point, you can still try to "negotiate" for a lower price. But it is unlikely the dealer would agree, since if you walk away, they will have an orphan which will probably fetch a significant premium over MSRP.

You can not order a PIP the way you’re saying. You had to go through the steps and even sign a conformation on the web with Toyota before your order was processed. Maybe your dealer is just selling you a PIP that someone else opted out?

Elmo, Hopefully I'm not too late to tell you about the the "PriusChat Certified Dealer Program" that Danny setup. Some dealers signed up for this program to allow you $500 off the PIP.

My NY State dealer hadn't heard about it, but I'm pressing him to understand that he should allow me the $500.

I showed my dealer how the PIP order process worked, had him take my $500 deposit and then work the PC to send my confirming order to me. I'm number 0110. I'm using the dealer only because of Location.

I've reminded him twice about the Program, so he knows I expect the $500 off.

ALSO, in the mail I got an Toyota offer to Test Drive a Toyota and get a $50 gift Card. So I drive a Prius V and submitted for the $50. Then if I buy a Toyota before April, I get $500 more. What a Deal !!!

    Anyone else get this mailing?

Have you logged onto the online order website and clicked on "My Order", to see your order history status? Mine has not been built yet and this is what mine says:

    estimated production window: Apr-May

    order status/history
    Online order submitted 11/22/2011
    Online dealer agreement [IMG]
    Online order confirmed [IMG]
    Manufacturing month confirmed 2/28/2012
    Your Plug-in was built
    In transit to port
    Arrived at US port

Since your dealer has called you to say yours has arrived, it should have the green check marks by the Online dealer agreement and Online order confirmed, and pretty much all the fields should be filled out since yours is about to arrive (or recently arrived)?

Also, the "my order" page should show "your price" with a dollar amount next to it (to the left of the "cancel order" button). This price should be the negotiated price (in my case it is $500 less than the total MSRP + $220 Blizzard Pearl option, since I got the PriusChat discount).

I followed all the steps, chose a local dealer, and I got a confirmation number. The only thing I was surprised to hear about, is the $500 deposit, which I was not asked to put down.

If you have a confirmation number for your order, you can send a private message to Erica - Prius Team Toyota Marketing USA - and give her your confirmation number and name, and she can look up for you what their system shows as your agreed upon price- If you decide to explain to her your situation and questions you have about the purchase, she might be able to get more information for you. . .
