I just picked up a new 2011 Prius III. I think I am really going to love this car. It was on my short list a couple of years ago. I had recently moved farther from work and my daily commute was now going to be 100 miles.

I bought a Fit Sport. I really liked the car, as it was very fun to drive and got decent gas mileage as long as I wasn't into the throttle all the time. However, I hated having to fill up every third day or so. It was also a bit noisy and cramped.

I drove the 2011 and have more room, it is more comfortable and is certainly loaded with a lot more features than my Fit Sport was.

Anyhow, I know I am going to love it...especially when we hit $5/gallon again!

I think you will as well I have had mine for a little over a month and I like it more every day. I had 220 mile trip yesterday and averaged 55.8 doing 65 with cruse control on.
I fine myself taking better care of the prius than range rover sport.

Congratulations. My 2011 Prius 3 was four weeks old on Fri. It has been more fun than I would have thought. I have been reading the manual to learn the electronics, using the bluetooth, and trying to improve mpgs. The great gas milage saves me $25 - 30/week.

I had the same problem and just could not bring myself to pay 30$ for a piece of bent plastic... further the greedy folks at ProClip want another 30$ for part 2... now I will admit their solutions was good but mine was cheaper...

Here is what I did... I ordered both a bean bag and vent mount for our Garmin Nuvi 1490lmt... neither of these mounts worked the way we wanted them to...solution...

I took a 2" paper clamp and drilled 4 holes in the back side...

Using a Dremel tool I cut the base of the vent mount that I previously bought to fit the back side of the paper clamp..

I then drilled four small pilot holes in the plastic base mount that I cut down to match the spring clamp...

Using 4 screws I attached the plastic base to the clamp the screws were a little long so I cut them off with the Dremel tool flush with the base...

I then cut a piece of shelf liner foam mat to fit the inside of the clamp when opened...

I used some 3m spray adhesive on the inside of the clamp...

Clamping the paper clamp open I fit the foam pad inside the paper clamp and trimmed it to fit and clean up the material...

I then pressed on the snap bracket part of the vent mount in place on the modified vent mount base and it was ready to intall in the vent on the 2011 prius.

I clamped the new GPS mount in place on the main vent rib and removed the paper clamp spreading handles...

The mount was now ready to receive the GPS... plugged it in...

Works absolutely great... best part it costs less than 8$

I took a couple pictures of the finished install...but I think I screwed up the upload... well anyway I hope that helps

The Fit is a nice (but goofy looking) car that rules that small class of vehicle. The space utilization is phenomenal.

Unfortunately, that huge space in the back with the rear seats folded down is only possible due to relocating the gas tank beneath the front seat, making for a small tank and frequent fill-ups, even with good gas mileage. Okay for city driving but not so much fun if you have a long daily commute.

Filling up wouldn't be as frequent with the larger gas tank and even better gas mileage of a Prius. Under those circumstances, it's a logical decision to move from a Fit to a Prius.
