I've noticed occasionaly my music goes silent for a second or so when the iPod is plugged into the USB port. But then it will play without missing a beat for long periods. Anyone having a similar problem? Any ideas as to what could be wrong? No skips when using the aux plug.

I thought people said plugging drives in to the USB results in the car indexing the drive. AUX is just sound out. Larger drives take longer to index. Or so I understand from reading PC.

I picked up my PIP yesterday ( ya-hoo) and noticed the same skipping with an ipod classic plugged into the USB port. Every song about 2 or 3 times a 2 second skip. Annoying. This ipod works perfectly in a 2011 Hyundai Genesis so I don't think it is the ipod. I may return to have service look at it but my feeling is that they will be clueless.

I've gotten used to it, and found it the most convenient way to listen to music in the car. It starts and stops automatically, something it won't do when plugged in using the aux cable. Nathan at Carson Toyota suggested it is similar to buffering on my home PC. What I wish I had was an easy way to convert iTunes to a format the system would accept, so that I could just put all my music on flash drives!

In iTunes, you can convert your music to mp3 format, and then copy the mp3s to a flash drive.

I can do that on my Macintosh computer's iTunes, but I am not sure how iTunes works on a PC.

The problem I have run into is that most of the music I have purchased is "protected" and can't be changed to mp3 format.

Oh that is too bad. There are software programs out there that can help you to do the change to mp3 format, but of course, it takes time to do all of the changing.

On the Macintosh, I have used a program named "Switch" to do some conversion of lectures I have recorded on my iPod/iPhone. There may be a version of Switch to use with Windows (PC).

if you want to solve this, you can turn on itunes match, match your library, then tell itunes to use a new, blank library and turn on match again. then you can download everything from apple in the new, higher bitrate, unprotected AAC format.

of course this costs $25 so it is insult to injury.

if you are talking about some music service other than itunes, sorry for the diversion :)

Never used iTunes myself, but there seem to be plenty of options for converting protected tracks to MP3. Google is your friend.

I have tried the sat. radio a few times, and notice that it tends to blank out momentarily as well, but in that case it is usually due to something interfering with the signal. I've noticed that same problem on other cars with sat. systems, and actually my iPod is really no worse. I am going to try some of the suggestions made by recent posters, starting with a different USB cord.

I'm having the same issue in my new Prius. Pretty annoying. I'll switch out the USB cord and see if that helps.

I tried a different USB cord with the same result. Mine works fine with the Aux. cord, but then I have to remember to switch off the iPod, just like with my '06.

I don't have a plug-in but I have a 2012 Prius 4 and my usb connected ipod skips. I've tried 2 different usb cables and 3 different ipods. I've also tried the vehicle in different driving modes (ECO, Power, EV) and the ipod skips every time. I took it into the dealer and they applied a software update but the skipping persists. They tried the ipod on other 2012 Prius and they also skipped. The dealer is saying nothing can be done until Toyota technical support gets enough complaints that they come up with a fix.

I've tried my 160GB iPod Classic in my Prius C and same thing. Lots of skips. iPod works fine otherwise.

Are you talking about the real iPod or the iPod in an iPhone?
I have noticed that music from my USB-connected iPhone pauses for a short moment when it receives an email or a message. I suppose it would not happen if I turned off the notifications for these things. Obviously, if it is happening with a device that does not have email or messaging capabilities, it can't be the reason.

I have a 160gb iPod Classic and an old 1st gen iPod Touch, and both work fine. Every once in a great while there's a pause for a second or two. That happens maybe once in two weeks.
