    Hello everyone.
I just thought Id share a simple project I just finished. Ive seen them sold for around $35 but I didnt want to spend that for a simple piece of abs plastic. If you dont mind spending it, here is the cheapest one I found.
Toyota Prius Sun Visor Hood for your Display Screen | eBay

Instead I purchased a 15"x15" piece of abs plastic here.
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

First I made a template using a file folder because it was a little firmer than using printer paper.

Once I decided the shape and size I wanted I tapped it to the abs plastic.

Then I cut it out using a jig saw.

Once it was cut I removed the paper and got out my blow torch to heat the plastic so I could shape the corners. Its not hard at all but you want to heat it not melt it so be careful with this step.

Lastly, I attached it using 3m double stick tape and I was done.

I made my visor a little bit larger than the other ones that are available and I like it that way. It took me less than 2 hours and I paid $11.70 for the plastic. There is even plastic left over that I can use in another project.

    Cheers.

i bought my priushood for $15 and it doesn't require any 3M double stick tape, but my second prius needs a hood and I enjoy making stuff myself and my butane torch is certainly feeling underused so I'll give this a try.

if you perfect the template so it "slides in" w/o having to use double sided tape it looks like you can make 2 or 3 out of that sheet and sell the extras on craigslist or ebay. thanks for the guide.

I have that same sanding block!! but i'm about to ruin it by sanding my drums and deglazing my shoes.

Way to go. I made my own sunshield too, but only required a little dremel shaping and no torch needed. It was made from a plastic pan - preshaped

I am in the process of making one myself. On Friday, I made a template out of a file folder as well.
This week I'll cut the ABS plastic.

i don't think you saved any time and trouble at all because you had to paint yours, and I hope that wasn't used once as a bed pan

Ha! Well there is a process called "Cleaning." Works wonders on a lot of things. But no, it was never "used." The painting took all of fifteen minutes.

My point though, is that the MFD shield is one of those things that can easily be fabricated a number of different ways (rather than buying) and the benefits are well worth the trouble.

I removed mine during the winter to make improvements, and without it, the sun glare was quite irritating.

well if they only made round bed pans than people with square behinds could sue them for discriminating against those with square [IMG] . . . butt-ism, and who wants that kind of bad press?
