I was disappointed there was no PiP at the Dallas Auto Show. I asked the toyota rep why they didn't have one. His answer was "Those are still in the prototyping stage." I replied "That's interesting considering that they are for sale in California and other places and people are already buying them and taking them home." He replied, "Oh, those are just prototypes."

So anyway, I guess he was clueless.

I did get my first look at the Prius V and the C. I love the C and if I didn't already have a Leaf, I'd probably buy one. My wife prefered the V. She's already driving a standard 2010 liftback version.

That was a Toyota rep? Wow he sure is clueless and it's not good to be that far off your game. Hope you get to see a PIP one soon, it's a great car. :)

Maybe I should drive my "Prototype" to his dealership!! LOL! I bet he would be very surprised to see a PiP pulling into his lot.

Which brings me to another question. Do you suppose the PiP is truly a separate part of the Prius family like Toyota says and future redesigns (including battery capacity, motors, etc.) will become independent of the Prius Gen 3 Liftback? Sure sounds like it to me.

I visited our Toyota dealer Our family has used, and the sales floor emptied out. There were 5 sales guys and the owner crawling around, and thanks to some of the posters in this forum, i think i was able to answer alltheir questions.
The coup was showing the 69mpg on the hsi, saying i wasnt trying that hard; there are some guys getting over 80mpg.
U could just see the light bulb turn on.

Oh, and there was not a Pip at the atlanta auto show either.

I would if I were you.

He should at least have had a Prototype for the Show.

i suppose it's difficult in such a large company to find many who know most of the product line up. but it's obvious from the toyota website that communication is not their priority.

The guys who man those shows are usually salespeople from dealerships. At least in CA that's been my experience. I get asked to work those shows every so often but they are exhausting and most salesmen who know their stuff avoid them like the plague ... you are drained at the end of the shift and no matter how many business cards are handed out, most of the time nothing comes of it ... I am more effective at my desk where everyone expects to find me!!

ANYway, any factory rep would know the cars are not prototypes and are going to be for sale in 14 of the 50 states so that was either a hired helper with some nominal knowledge or a salesman.

And, with all of the pre-sales, sending some around the country for "shows" to states where they are not for sale means SOMEONE's Pre-order is being delayed further.

By the way, the car isn't for sale in TX so having one at the auto show was smart. Why show something that residents of that state cannot buy right now? It just breeds confusion.

Sadly true. Even Toyota's web site says "Prototype shown with options. Production model may vary." when you go to the Plug-In Prius.

Well, Ford had a C-Max Energi on display and they aren't even manufacturing those yet, to my knowledge.
