I had my 5000 mile maintenance performed today. I also opted to have a paid oil change which was probably overkill. I had a coupon so the cost was only $20. I also asked the service people to upgrade Entunes from 1.7.4 to 1.8.4. I might as well have been speaking Greek to them. They said that they were not aware of any upgrade. I just asked them to look into this further. Normally, I would have really pushed this but I am somewhat conservative on software upgrades unless I am dealing with a known problem or the upgrade provides some significant benefit. I was however surprised at their lack of knowledge.

My car was delivered to me on 4/12/12 and i noticed that it is still on 1.7.4. I asked the dealer if they can update the software to 1.8.4. He said they aren't aware of any updates. My car was delivered to the dealership directly from Japan. So he told me that it will have the latest software automatically. I have a trim five without ATP. Does anyone without ATP have the version 1.8.4?

There is an update and I have it. Ours were also delivered with 1.7.4 and I insisted they get updated. I was treated like an idiot until someone located the flash drive buried on someone's desk. I have a v5 without the advanced tech package. Be firm, the service department is either ignorant or blowing you off. Another update is due out in the Spring of 2012.

You shouldn't have to do their work for them but here is a link citing the TSB regarding the update.

    Hope this helps!

Dealer finally sent me an email yesterday that they just got the new version 1.8.4 in a flash drive. So i went in and got it updated last evening. I asked them about what is new in 1.8.4 and they have no information on that. I searched the internet and found nothing. I have been using it since the upgrade and i dont see any differences between the two versions. Does any one know the enhancements done in the 1.8.4 version?

I think it was more bug fixes than enhancements. I have never located that info either. W

Mine came with the 1.8.4 installed so I could only guess the improvements...it sucks better? My question would be since there supposedly going to be charging for future updates would they be included in the two year free maintenance offered by Toyota?

for i phone to work with etune, it must be plugged into the audio port. it should work directly thru BT. Toyota has stated an update to correct will be forthcoming soon.

Take a peek at this thread for info on the TSB that mentions the issues.
    http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-v...ion-operation-display-audio-non-hdd-type.html

None had anything to do with the iPhone. The Bluetooth issue (which I hate too) is different versions of the bluetooth protocol from what I was told. The iPhone is higher and unsupported by the radio. Toyota should have planned to work with apple, android and blackberry but that is a tall order because there is a lot of fragmentation within Android phones (differing hardware and operating systems all controlled by the hardware manufacturer). They should have picked a cutoff for iPhones which don't have the same issue as Android but a lot of people still use old iPhones. I would expect Blackberry phones to be more organized than Android from a compatibility perspective. And before anyone wonders no I am not bashing Android phones. This is a known fact. I have had one. I do have experience trying to make everyone happy and everything work with 3rd party products. I think that is impossible. W

I have an iPhone 4S with AT&T and subscribe to a tethering plan. I am able to connect my non-HD 6.1 entune features to my phone via bluetooth with no issues.
Everything works very well, Traffic, weather, Pandora Bing etc. Everything. I use the USB port for my iPod that I have filled up with music.
I do not need to "run"the entune app on the phone for all these features to work. I simply click on Bing (or whatever) it creates a internet connection with the phone and that's it. The connection stays active until I shut off the car.
    Hope this helps!

I had read about the tethering option but shouldn't need to do it. I don't need tethering for any other reason so silly to pay for it just to make a car feature work. W

I second that. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan from AT&T but i hardly use more than 2 GB /month. I dont need to pay more money every month for it to work on Car. I jailbreaked my iphone last night, installed MyWi and tested with entune over bluetooth tethering and it is working fine. I tested all the apps and they are working fine. Not sure if i can use this for long since AT&T might detect it and warn me. But i will use it until i get that warning :)

@Vamc555; Are you sure that entune did not work over bluetooth before the jailbreak?

I can say for certain it doesn't work over Bluetooth for my iPhone 4s not jail broken (yet) and current operating system. I also have a verizon unlimited plan but like you use way less. I've been pondering jailbreaking the phone it just requires more attention to security holes. W

Edited to add 2 v with display radio, 2 iPhone 4s neither work over Bluetooth.

Yes. I have tried both with my Iphone 4 and my wife's Iphone 4s (Both are AT&T) and neither of them worked with bluetooth. Both worked fine with the USB cable. Now with the Jailbreak, there is no need for the entune application to be launched on the iphone as well.

So now I'm just wondering if it is the HDD Premium Nav or the Ipad 2 (not jailbroken & no tethering) that lets me use entune over bluetooth. What ever it is, I'm loving it for saving me a monthly tethering fee.

I can open the Entune App, put the Ipad to sleep (screen goes black), turn on Prius v (wagon), verify pairing with Ipad 2, press the apps button, touch Apps on screen, press Saved Locations and sync saved locations (and use all other Entune apps).

I just double checked and the Ipad 2 never turned on. It stayed in sleep mode with the black screen. Go figure.

I hope Toyota fixes this for the Iphone bluetooth connection fast and for all Nav systems.

Looks like the HDD Premium Nav makes the difference. There are different instructions for initial connection for Display Audio with Nav and Premium HDD Nav.

Here are the longe initial Entune instructions for the Iphone from Toyota site ( How to Pair a Phone )
How Do I Connect to the Internet?</H1>Once you've paired your phone, you're connected for phone and for audio streaming via Bluetooth® [3] wireless technology. To connect for Internet, which will allow you to use your phone's data plan to access Entune™ [5] apps and data services, follow the procedure below after your phone is already paired with the multimedia system.

If you are using an iPhone® [6], start here.

    1. Connect your iPhone® [6] to your vehicle using your iPhone® [6] USB cable (other cords such as cigarette lighter adapter cords will not work with Entune, you must use the USB connection)
    2. Make sure your phone is turned on and paired with vehicle.
    3. Check the battery life on your phone. To maximize the capabilities of the phone, not Entune™, your phone must have a minimum of a 50% battery charge. If your phone's battery is below 50% please plug it into a power source before launching Entune™
    4. Launch Entune app on phone and sign in. Note: The first time you launch Entune™ on your phone, sign in by entering your email address and password you created when you registered at myentune.com. If you did not register your Entune™ account yet, please click here.
    5. Within the Entune™ app on your iPhone® [6], touch Options > Connect to Vehicle
      1. The app displays a lockout screen
      2. Your vehicle's screen displays a request to connect an Internet device
    6. On the vehicle screen, touch Yes to connect the iPhone® [6]
      1. A message displays stating the device is now connected for Internet services
    7. On the head unit, press APPS
      1. Entune™ displays the APPS main page
      2. The phone app displays a lockout screen with the Entune™ logo and a button to disconnect from Entune™.
Continue with "Reconnecting at a later time"

Then under Reconnecting at a later time it does not mention the USB cable anymore as seen below:

    iPhone® [6]

On subsequent restarts of the vehicle, the vehicle will automatically detect an "Internet Device" and ask the user to resume services. Touch Yes. The multimedia system will return to the "Audio Off" screen. Press APPS to display the apps main screen. If a "data plan cost" warning message appears, touch Continue[5]. You will see a confirmation screen of successful connection. If you have problems, ensure your phone is in "Listening Mode". This is essential for the phone to communicate with the multimedia system. Follow these instructions to put your phone in Listening mode:
    1. Launch Entune app on phone
    2. Touch "set up icon" bottom right corner of screen
    3. Make sure "Connect to Vehicle" is grayed out
    4. If "Connect to Vehicle" is black, touch to turn on and it will turn gray
So I'm still hoping that you can get an Iphone to connect with Entune over Bluetooth (with no tethering or jailbreaks) if you follow the initial instructions under "How do I connect to the internet." And I think that Toyota should have used the same Entune code for both Nav systems. Here is the same instructions for the Premium HDD Nav:

Launch the Entune™ mobile app and go!
Just launch the Entune™ mobile app on your paired phone and you’re connected.

    Go figure.
