I just bought a 2012 Prius III package last weekend. I have an AT&T iPhone 4.

I had this problem for the first time 2 days after I bought my car. I plugged my iPhone 4 into the USB port and my song info is displayed on the Nav screen (like it supposed to be) but the audio was played out of the iPhone speakers. I have unplugged it and replugged it in and it still would not come out of the car's speakers, only the iPhone's speakers. I got a phone call and my bluetooth worked fine. The other persons voice came out of the car speakers like it was supposed to. When I ended the call my iPhone started working as it was supposed to and played out of the cars speakers. It happened one more time later that day, but this time making a call didn't help.

The next day I plugged my iPod instead of my iPhone and it was working fine for about 20 mins. Then there was a few seconds of silence. Then it started playing but every few minutes it would start skipping like an old record.

Then today, the same thing happened with my iPhone where it would only play out of the phone's speakers. I was really close to a dealer, so I stopped by. The service advisor played with my phone for a few minutes and said he has never seen this before and had no idea but I would have to leave my car AND my phone for about 5 hours for them to figure it out. Then I got a call and as soon as the call ended my iPhone started to play correctly. Needless to say I did not want to leave my car AND phone all day, I thought I would ask the experts here first.

Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone have any suggestions?

When in doubt reboot. Or call yourself if that does the trick for you.

I haven't tried the USB connection, but your BT issue has not happened to me (so far). However, I have discovered a few idiosyncrasies with the BT connection. I will start out with a disclaimer: I have two devices that I pair to the car -- an iPhone 4 and an iPad.

    1) The NAV system won't always automatically release a connection once the BT device has disconnected (ie. either been turned off or Entune forced closed). If all I have done is force close Entune I have to go in to the phone settings and turn off BT in order for the NAV system to automatically connect with the new device.

    2) When connecting with the NAV system after being disconnected (un-paired), I have to connect to the NAV system first, and then start Entune on the device.

It's taken a couple of times for me to figure this out. I hope that helps with the BT connectivity. :)

For the USB issue, I would try to connect using a different USB cable, just to rule out some issue with the cable you are using. The other thing I would try is to make sure you don't have BT enabled on the iPod that you have plugged into the USB. I can't see how this could be an issue, but I would at least try to rule that out as well.

I actually tried 3 different usb cords and the same thing happened. The music from my iPhone was still playing out of the iPhone speakers and not from the cars speakers.

THANKS for taking the time to respond to my post.

Bummer.:( I just went out and tried connecting an iPod via USB and didn't have any issues. My iPhone was in my office (about 16 feet from the car and on the other side of the wall from the garage) and I was still able to have the BT connection. I was switching between the USB and BT connections with no problems. I know this doesn't help you much, other than to give you some information to pass on to the dealership. I have a Five with ATP (7.1 in. NAV)

Next time, see if you can tap the small icon on the bottom right of the iPhone's screen. It will display a menu with the audio output options.
