Just had my free 30-Day Prius "C" Service and got a free carwash at the same time.

It's great that 2 years of service/maintenance are paid for by Toyota with the new car purchase. I paid the additional $799 for an additional 3 years of no-charge service/ maintenance--making a total of 5 years of covered service/maintenance. Whatever wears out will be covered by the 6-year Extended Warranty I also purchased.

With all the advanced technology and features that are in the new "C," I think any future repairs will be expensive and that's why I chose to pay for an Extended Warranty.

I have the option to purchase the warranty before the 2 years are up, so I'm going to sleep on it and see if any issues arise with this new model...
Congrats on the purchase and peace of mind :)

    Congrats Mary.

Most of us are in complete awe over the C, including myself.

But many I have been reading do not get the same care and attitude that
you are getting. I have read some nasty ways that dealers act and then nasty ways
that us the customer get towards the dealer.

I am glad to hear that the dealer asked for you to come back in 30 days (sched. appt)
As my dealer set up for me too!

I have nothing to say but good things about the dealer I purchased from and will
continue to praise about them. I did not get the scheduled maintenance package,
but the extended warranty I did, as it was offered at a deal less than what
is normally available and also cheaper than what is offered by the thread/links on the site here.

So glad to hear that there are still good and honest dealerships out there,
and that you the customer can still have faith in going back to the them for service.

I live in a mostly honest part of the country, so it may help. But I would like to
see more positives like yours across the country, or entire world.

I'm confused because I thought you're supposed to pass on any "extended" warranty/service type deals because that's so the dealer can make some extra money on the sale. Should I do this when I buy my new Prius C?

I or no one can say whether you should buy the warranty extension or service contract.

I dont know too much about the service contract, so I cannot judge against it.
for me, I understand that the first 2 years of service are free, and then oil changes are
roughly $20-70 depending on you doing it yourself, or going to the dealership.
I am not sure what other "service" other than oil changes for following 3 years.
Depends on driving characteristics and mileage I suppose.

For the extended warranty, if they offer less than what you can get it for, then
you can go for it at time of car purchase.
The links in this site are somewhere around $1000 +/- for
6 years 75000 (total including the already 3 yrs)
I grabbed it at the dealer, since the charge was way under that price.
I read some dealers are charging up to $1500+ (Also listed at $1350 at toyota.com)

Maybe just sit back and read for a bit.
Then do what you are comfortable with.

I was comfortable with only the 6yr/75k ext warranty and paint and fabric protection.
I had the paint and fabric protection on my Scion (paid $1200) and never have to wax.
Washing it makes it look super clean and shiny and also freshly waxed (water beads nice!)
But with the Prius C, Paint AND Fabric protector was $595.....I didnt blink twice
    I got it!

I think what you are referring to is the long-
held belief of Consumer Reports that it does
not pay to purchase extended warranties.

I lost my faith in Consumer Reports due to
2 costly events with cars in my life that made me question their recommendations:

    1. Years ago they recommended and raved
about the Fiat 128 sedan as the number
one compact to purchase. It turned out to
be the worst car I have ever owned with
frequent breakdowns and inability to get
parts for months at a time. I had no
    transportation. I contacted a well-known
TV consumer reporter who got the
dealership to provide me with a loaner
car while I waited another 6 weeks for
the needed parts to arrive. As soon as I
got the Fiat 128 repaired, I traded it in
on a used rental car which was all I
    could afford at the time.

    2. In 2000 I purchased a new Honda Accord,
and it developed 2 major costly
problems right after the 3-year 36,000 mile
warranty expired. I had not purchased an
    extended warranty because of the
    Consumer Reports recommendation.

These 2 car experiences in my life made me
question the opinions of Consumer Reports
and thus purchase the extended warranty.

Of the six new cars I've purchased, the only extended warranties I've sprung for were the '88 Chevy 4wd truck and the '09 Prius. The Prius was selected only because we had never purchased a Toyota or a hybrid. Wife is kinda belt/suspenders, too.

The '88 Chevy truck warranty was the best money I may have ever spent on a vehicle. It was in the shop 14 times at $100 a pop. Finally, a cracked block at 66k miles tripped the trigger and I traded it in on a '91 F150 4wd. That taught me to be leery of first year, first qtr of a new model, and that it's a low chance that you'll need an extended warranty.

The one on the 09 Prius isn't likely to be used, but until it's all over a body never knows what's going to come up.

Wife bought the extended warranty on the C only because it's a first model year.

My dealer offered an extended warranty and an additional 3 years service/maintenance plan. I was thinking about getting it but I finally decided that I can live without these plans. My math was simple, I opened a service manual for my Pruis C and all what Toyota is recommending all the way down to 5 years / 60,000 miles is a simple oil change, tire rotation, engine & cabin filter replacement. I was trying to figure out from my dealer what kind of benefits will I get from my 3 years ($800) service plan, and the answer was something like, you gong to have free oil change (with 0-W20 synthetic oil it's happened every 10,000 miles, i.e. 3 more free oil changes) and they also were trying to scare me with some terrible $300-$400 service at 30,000 miles. What the service manual says that all you need to do at that point is just to change the oil (my guess $50-$60 at the dealership), rotate your tires, replace an engine filter (my guess $15-$20) as well as a cabin filter (probably another $20-$25). Most or even all of it I can do on my own. Since I didn't get a clear justification from the dealer about "scary" 30,000 miles service I decided to give up on that. As for the extended warranty, I though that the original warranty should be enough and since most of Toyotas owned gained bullet-proof reliability score (even if something happened it is just tiny-biddy things) I gave up on extended warranty as well. I might be wrong with my decision and only time will tell, but I thought that I can find a better use of $2,300 at this point.

    Cornflakes:

From what I can make out from the invoice, it
seems the 30-day service is almost completely focused on tire measurements and
tire wear--which is important to take remedial
action early if there is a problem showing abnormal or unusual wear. Plus I had them put on my new license plates at the same time.

My dealer has a no charge lifetime powertrain warranty with all their new Toyotas they sell. That and free lifetime car washes are part of my purchase package.
