That article touts its light weight but doesn't say what it is. Best I can find online is 2850 lbs or so? With 200 horsepower it won't be slow, but nor will it be fast; a similarly priced V6 family sedan will beat it at the lights, which is unfortunate for a "sports car". I guess it will be more miata-like in that handling and tightness are its claims to fame beyond power. Looks decent, along with the subaru car similar coming out soon.

Did Toyota and Subaru work together on this concept car? Thought I read that somewhere.

edmunds said 2833, so yes its sporty not a sports car.
hachi-roku was not fast. They need to add a turbo to even approach sports car territory. My guess would be high sixes to 60.

    Its a shared platform.

A friend of mine saw a BRZ at a local dealer when the Subaru people were showing it around and he said the engine had "Toyota" on it.

I believe this will be the only Subaru without AWD--strange considering Subaru has touted in its marketing for some time that all its vehicles have it.

In the second video, it shows them testing the BRZ on rollers and all 4 wheels are turning. It's just past the 6:00 mark.

I heard the Subaru is RWD. The front wheels might need to rolling to prevent TC from engaging.

It's probably RWD so there's only one drivetrain between the Toyota ans Subaru versions then.

    Yep it's definitely not AWD.

That link claims 6 second 0-60. I think you'll have to masterfully launch it to reach such a figure.

In 2016 when CAFE requirements are in full effect, this car will leave a Fiesta, Aveo, Elantra, Yaris, and iQ in the dust. :car:

What do you want, a gas hog?
I'm sure Toyota has a hybrid version in their future plans that puts out more HP. :)

    The worked together on it.
I didn't know they've hit US dealers already. Haha... it's a Subaru engine.

Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT 86 production gets underway [w/video] mentions where both versions are being produced.

The price is pretty good (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/22/2013-scion-fr-s-priced-from-24-930/) w/the $24,930 including destination charge. The 03 Nissan 350Z (w/a lot more power but substantially heavier) started higher than that and that was in 2002 dollars.

It was the Subaru people showing the dealers what to expect.

Toyota owns a portion of Subaru's parent company Fuji Heavy Industries.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Subaru&useformat=desktop

On October 5, 2005 Toyota Motor Corporation purchased 8.7% of FHI shares from General Motors who had owned 20.1% of FHI[8] since 1999. GM later divested its remaining 11.4% stake, selling its shares on the open market to sever all ties with FHI. FHI previously stated that there might have been 27 million shares (3.4%) acquired before the start of trading by an unknown party on October 6, 2005, and speculation suggested that a bank or perhaps another automaker was involved. After the purchase, Toyota announced a contract with Subaru on March 13, 2006 to use the underutilized Subaru manufacturing facility in Lafayette, Indiana, and Toyota announced plans to hire up to 1,000 workers and set aside an assembly line for the Camry model, beginning in the second quarter of 2007.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fuji_Heavy_Industries&useformat=desktop

FHI is 16.5% owned by Toyota.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Toyota&useformat=desktop

Toyota also owns 51% of Daihatsu, and 16.7% of Fuji Heavy Industries, which manufactures Subaru vehicles.

Bob Baker Toyota has one on their lot. Still had the clear wrapping paper on it. Toyota designed the engine and in traditional fashion they made the bore and stroke 86mm x 86mm...coincidence? I don't think so seeing as everyone is calling this car the new AE86. [IMG]

I'm not so sure Toyota designed the engine given what's stated at 2013 Subaru BRZ Sports Car - Prototype Drive - Car and Driver and that it's a flat-4 (aka boxer) engine, something Subaru uses extensively and Toyota doesn't use on any current vehicles (AFAIK) other than this Toyobaru.
