Let's Hum: New Prius Commercial Will Leave You Singing

    It's no secret that I've been mean to Toyota in the past for their Prius ad campaigns, but I think they finally have one that won't insult some portion of the population. Toyota has launched a new ad for the Prius Family called "Hum", and I'm happy to say I actually enjoy it.

    The ad does a nice job of explaining the different models of Prius that are available without saying the awful names they came up with (v, c, liftback), but keeps the Prius within that whimsical Prius world that is somewhat synonymous with Prius advertising. Not only that, but the tune they came up with is hard to forget. I bet you can't avoid watching it at least twice, and then you'll be humming the tune to yourself for the rest of the day.

    I do like the new commercial. And you are right, I did watch it 2X. I could watch it again and again though.

    Zoe (my 3 year old) made me play it 2-3 MORE times after we had watched it 2-3 times. After a while, she came back to my office and said "Daddy, I want the hum song again!" Toyota's marketing team did a good job with this one!

    There's a couple of visual "Easter Eggs" too! Note the chess players when they go out of focus on the Plug-in - the guy on the left steals the other guy's rook.

    Good solid commercial. Will it make non-Prius drivers consider a Prius though?

    I like it too but sounds like she is singing: "Dis the car...
    I wish she would ennunciate more clearly, or maybe I am just too paranoid.

    I especially like the star of the show (white Prius).

    It didn't do much for me, but it is far far better than those other prius commercials.

    Saw the commercial last night, tried to look at it from a new car buyers outlook. From that point of view it didn't do it for me. Message wise it works. But way too cute for my tastes...

    Yes it's cute and catchy but I think it will mainly appeal to those who all ready have positive opinions of Pri and/or hybrids in general and "roll the eyes" of those who don't (bubba gumps, gear heads, truck/suv lovers, etc).

    Just came back from Iceland where a gallon of gas is like $8.10 a gallon. And saw tons of small cars to meet the demand. Sadly we won't see a bigger change in buying habits till gas reaches that level here in the US.

    It is an animation. It makes sense to people who want a green car but not to the general public. If you have seen the Cadillac commercial, you know what I mean.

    Most people don't have any clue that there are 4 distinct models of Prius.

    This commercial does a very good job of raising awareness.

    It's a decent commercial. As far as changing people's minds, to be honest, I don't think very many car commercials do that at all. Hopefully they remind you of a car model when you're thinking about a new car so you put it in your short list to check out, but you certainly can't be expected to buy a car from only a commercial. At least, I hope people are smarter than that.

    I watched it only once, and didn't hate the commercial, like I have hated most all that came before. A nice change. In keeping with Danny's wishes, I will watch it one more time, but later.

    EDIT: Just saw the thing on TV in HD, so that fulfills the second watch. I'm not humming it though. I just hope I don't wake up with that tune playing through my head.
