For another thread I did a bit of analysis that I though I'd share here and comare to the 2010 data.
At the end of 2010, the market share for hybrids was
    [IMG]

Note the total sales for 2010 were only 274,210.

For Aug 2012 year to date, using data from August 2012 Dashboard | Hybrid Cars

we get the following summary, with greater than 312,000 to date:

So sales are up, but more interesting is the shift in standings. TMC maintains their dominance but GM has made a huge shift. The Volt alone though august is already 2x GMs total 2010 hybrid sales! So to those that keep saying GM is out of the hybrid game, the number tell a different tune!

Disappointing that Ford and Honda have gone down so quickly in absolute numbers as well as market share.

When it suits GM, the Volt is an Electric Vehicle, when it suits GM, the Volt is a Hybrid.

This listing omits many competitors as they are not 'Hybrids' they are electric cars. Later GM will deftly omit Toyota as they are not 'Electric Cars'.

Just be aware, the Leaf, iMev, RAV4 EV, Tesla, etc. is not in this 2012 list.

Hopefully they can both pick up some absolute numbers next year, as the absolute number should be up for everyone!. Ford killed off the escape and the C-Max is not quite the same, was slower to hit the market and some ford fans may be awaiting the C-Max Energi rather than the simple hybrid (which did not get great reviews, e.g.

    in this review:
2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid Full Test and Video

    They conclude
So in their testing they got worse gas milage in the C-Max then they did with even the Volt in pure gas mode (which of course not really what the Volt is for). It does not take long for real-world data to destroy a hybrids rep if its claiming things that are not even close.

Ford took a breather with a redesign. It looks like a good one. Their numbers should go back up when the c-max and 2013 fusion hybrid are at dealerships in quantity.

Honda may be down for the count. The handling of the battery situation was not good. The prius c, should just about drive a nail in the coffin of the insight. The camry, sonata, and fusion hybrid prices and mpg seriously hurt the civic, for those that want a hybrid with a trunk.

    Blinded by hate?
Guess you did not read the actual list before bashing GM.
Note GM did not make up that list, I did as I combined data from the hyrbid and PHEV/EV lists at hybridcars.com. And, most significantly for you comment, the only car you mention not in the above list is the Rav4EV, as it did not have any deliveries by Aug 31.

I swear I specifically looked for the Leaf, and did not find it. It is certainly there now. (Could be worse, in another site I commented on a quotation from John Jay, then the OP switched the image to a quote from George Washington, it looks as if I misquoted him)
Mock the Non-believers: Funny, Effective or Misguided Political Images and Videos - Ars Technica OpenForum

The sad part is, had GM not lied about the Volt, it is a pretty good car, just not the car GM advertized it was making. Over promise and under deliver does not make a happy Jimbo.

No problem.. Jimbo.. sorry for a somewhat agressive response.. Many messages over the weekend from various haters probably put me on edge.
(Note you can see the last edit data.. so unlike your jay/washington at least time the OP did not change anything here. But as a dyslexic I can imagine just missing things in the list.)

While they did not get EPA numbers that match their projections, I am extreamly happy with what they delivered. I routinely get 50miles per chage in fair weather, 40 in winter, and if I'm willing to drive 65mph I can get 45-50mpgallon in CS mode. The quality of the ride/drive exceeded my expectations by a wide margin, so in that sense they did over-deliver.

images are broken... problem with GM is that most of their hybrids are either mild-hybrids that are useless or Volt that is severely underperfoming.

Hopefully new Ford's will pickup the slack as well as future Honda's.

Toyota has to have real competition on volume as well.

Fixed the images.. don't know what happened.. they seem to have been deleted from my album. Guess I've annoyed someone

Hmm you think the volt is underperforming... Real world data on voltstats.net has the median Volt driver at 178MPG.. What are you getting? Yeah I know I do better than the median, but there are slackers everywhere that don't care about efficency.

Interesting and encouraging that Volt is outselling the Prius Plug by 2:1, 12,000 Volts to 6,000 PIP's.

I think the Volt is 50 state already, the PiP is still only available in CARB states. My wife wanted a PiP, but I would have had to have it shipped from CA. ($750, I did check with Diane Whitmire)

It would be interesting to calculate the impacts on CAFE for each of the manufacturer.

methinks someone at PC doesn't like to have talk about other hybrids.

how is this an even remotely fair comparison? PiP only became available as a Preorder in the first week of March and has been selling in CARB states only. Volt has been selling to the general public since Jan 1 and nationwide. It would be quite odd if it wasn't outselling the PiP.

The ramp and availability does need to be considered. The Volt units in Aug was 2831 vs the PiP units of 1047. Let's hope they both double in a year.

Because of brand loyalty perhaps, the focus here tends to be on cannablization between hybrids rather than expanded market share of higher mpg vehicles.

Both are plug in hybrids same size and price range. Direct competitors by two of the largest car manufacturers. Comparison is a year both were advertised and sold.

I think his objection is that the PiP wasn't available on Jan 1, and still not available in most states.
