Thinking of changing the shifter knob of the V to a regular prius knob. What do you think guys? I feel like the shifter knob is too small in the V and curving backwards instead of curving forward like the regular prius. Got a better feel in your hand with a bigger shifter knob on a regular prius than the V. I'll keep you posted. Waiting for it to get here. Bought it from fleabay for $20.

I have noticed that the v's shift is unusually small. Not a big deal to me for how often I actually am in contact with it, but that looks good for $20. I'd consider it. Easy to switch out? Just screws off and the new on screws on?

Correct. What I've noticed is that the smaller shift knob has a longer stem- about 1/2 in.. The smaller shift knob stem gets closer to the base. But for a first time looker, you won't tell the difference. This can be solve IMO by either cutting the shifter half an inch or be creative by adding a piece of plastic trim or whatever to makeup the difference. But the biggest benefit is the feel of it when you shift. A huge difference specially with bigger hands. I'll post pictures comparing the two as far as the distance from the base is concerned when the other one gets here.

???? what is the logic here.....I have big hands and the lever requires only a quick one-finger 1" flick to the left, then down for drive or up for reverse. It is not necessary to grab it with your mitt. A whole lot better than the big clunky shifter between the seats I was used to for decades. I like it like it is...hi tech which is what the Prius is......down the road, maybe we will be able to "think" drive or reverse and it will go into gear!

Coming from driving a regular Prius, the feel of holding the shifter was different on the V. Did not like it . Too small for me. If it's OK and comfortable to you, leave it like it is. To each his own. :)

Finally had time today to do the mod. Cut the shifter 1/2 in. with a dremel cutter and here is the outcome. Much easier to hook the shifter with my fingers to go in drive and the feel of holding the shifter is 300% better.

Hmmmm, thought of adding an LED light that solely hits the shifter knob like the regular prius. Noticed that the area where the shifter is is too dark when I drove it tonight. I'll check the parts from local dealer.

Look nice. ;) So basically you just "unscrew" the knob to remove it?
    Thanks,

That's it. You may need to cut the shifter rod about 1/2 in. because the prius V shift knob is longer about half an inch than the regular prius knob.

    Thanks,

After the cut, will I still have enough thread or can I tap the knob for deeper hole?

Yes. Lots of thread. You should have an idea when you unscrew the knob. You can even leave it as is without cutting it. Just depends on what you want with the looks of it. A first time looker won't be able to tell whether you leave the shifter rod uncut or cut. I won't suggest tapping the knob for deeper hole though. The shifter rod might come through.

Any body know where to get an adapter for the regular prius? Most knobs are bigger than the current threads
