Autocar, a UK magazine, says that Audi is developing plug in gas and diesel hybrids for its next A-4 models in 2015.
Nothing in the article about whether any or all of these will be brought to North America or other parts of the world outside Europe.

    Excerpt from the article:

"The engine line-up for the new A4 will encompass a wide range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol and diesel units. Cylinder deactivation is also likely to be offered on a wide range of engines.
    Petrol engines are expected to include 140bhp 1.4, 180bhp 1.8 and 220bhp 2.0 four-cylinder units and a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with 310bhp, boosted to 340bhp in the S4. Diesel engines are likely to be a 105bhp 1.6, a 2.0 in 150bhp and 180bhp guises and a 3.0-litre V6 giving a choice of 220bhp and 270bhp.
Audi has three plug-in hybrid drivetrains under development, all based around a common electric drive arrangement that uses a 110bhp electric motor housed within the gearbox casing. Engines to be mated to the technology include the 220bhp 2.0-litre petrol, 180bhp 2.0-litre diesel and a 250bhp version of the supercharged 3.0-litre V6."

Since Audi is part of Volkswagen, we can look forward to seeing these options in the similar but less expensive Volkswagen cars of the future.

The first will be the golf
Volkswagen Golf plug-in hybrid now due in 2014
Note that 31 miles is likely the european test. The older 35 mile epa volt scored 52 on that test. We should expect a 20-25 mile range on us tests.

The Autocar report and the AutoblogGreen report that austin sent us really differ in a lot of ways, and the AutoblogGreen reporter indicated some vagueness from the VW spokesperson. I suspect this means that the VW group has not finalized its marketing plans, or is deliberately keeping public knowledge of them vague. So I guess we all just have to stay tuned.

I'll stick with someone else's plug-in, thank you very much. ;)
