I was forced after 47,000 miles on the OEM tires of my '05 Prius to replace all 4 tires after noticing the severe tread wear that was occurring.

I didn't have much time to do research, but my local tire shop was recommending replacing the Goodyear Integrity's that came with the car with Cooper CS4 Touring tires (T-Rated - 185/65R15 - 80,000 Mile Prorated).

I couldn't find any bad reviews (or good ones for that matter) about the tire, and figured it was an adequate replacement for the OEM's.
Does anyone have any experience with this tire?

There was little information about the LRR rating of the tire, but I was lead to believe that most higher-mileage tires are of the LRR variety.

Overall, I'm feeling strangely comfortable with my decision, given how little information I acted upon, but would appreciate if someone else more knowledgeable, or with some experience with this particular tire, would chime in with their two cents.

    Thanks in advance.

I would also like to know if anyone has experience with these tires cause I happen to build them on a daily basis. I can tell you everything that goes in them just not info that anyone needs. I have seen charts comparing these tires to others leading manufactured tires and they exceded many of their numbers. I can tell you they were not made in China (for now) but right here in the USA. Just a few miles down the road where Toyota is currently building the prius plant.

I have to say, in following up, that I am very pleased with the Cooper CS4 tires.
The MPG for the car took a hit as the tires "broke in", but after 2-4 months, I am back to where I was with the OEM tires 40-48 MPG avg. I do feel that these tires perform better than the Integrity's did (at least so far). I would recommend them, as the car seems to drive safer (especially in wet weather).

You got 47.000 miles on the OEM's-----that sounds great!

Hope the Cooper CS4's do well for you.

    Hi Kevwalker,
Do you have any additional feedback since your decision? I can not find any good or bad reviews either. I have been considering the Cooper CS4 also, as they are in the right price range for me at this time; as much as I would like the Goodyear TripleTred per some of the feedback and ratings that I have seen.

No, but I can say that I've put 13,000 miles + on the tires since I've purchased them with no real complaints. I can get 40-50 MPG consistently, and the tires still ride nice. I think I'll really have to get up into the tire's expected mileage to be able to offer anything else of value, but so far, so good.

I put these tires on my 2008 after finding out the OEM tires were bad in the rain. I have 17,000 miles on them on dry and wet roads and I have found them to be great. Good choice!

    40-50 mpg is consistant?

With all of the new low rolling resistance tires coming out I would be looking at those personally. Some of them are within the price range of other "affordable" tires. I think my Nokians were $71/ea.

I have these tires and they are approximately a year old. I can not complain about much. Road noise is minimal.
I have replaced two tires (same position)because of road hazards. Once I hit a rock or brick or something in the road and the side wall bulged and they said it needed to be replaced.
Then I had a flat, with a screw, and they said the tire was shot because I road in it flat and there was rubber particles on the inside of the tire.
As soon as I felt the car ride funny I pulled off the road and saw that it was flat and put some tire fix it in it. Of course that is a no, no to most tire people.
Anyway long story short the tires are fine at this point but I have never had to replace tires because of road hazards. Maybe just me.

UPDATES PLEASE RE: Cooper CS4 Tire Experiences????

Hi there! Just about to finally replace my tires. Got a bit over 30k in my Prius on the CRAP that I bought the car with... stupid GYs! Anyway, I love my Prius and want desperately to do right by it. I've considered the Hydroedge Michelin tire, and secondarily, these Coopers.

Right now there's a $70 rebate on the Mich and at Allen Tires it's buy 3 Coopers get one FREE. So it's a toss up to me. Any opinions on LONGTIME COOPER OWNERS would be great, to compare against the Hydroedge.

Re: UPDATES PLEASE RE: Cooper CS4 Tire Experiences????

I have experience with both tires so I think I can help you here.

On my personal Saturn, I have a set of Michelin Hydroedges. After 52k, the fronts still have 7/32 left and the backs have 6/32 left. And this is with short trip city driving. Steering response is sharp and ride quality is on the firmer side. The tires are also fairly noisy and have lousy traction IMO.

My friend's 06 Prius has a set of CS4 Tourings. He has about 10k on them now and I rotated them once. Wear seems to be pretty good, though not quite as good as the Hydroedges. Traction is a bit better than the Hydroedge, but the steering response is slow. Also, it took 2-3 ounces PER SIDE to balance each CS4 Touring tire...which is very unusual in my experience. QC issues?? Not sure.

In my opinion, neither tire would be my choice. I would strongly consider a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires. They may not last as long as the Hydroedge, but they are much quieter and deliver better traction. After all....traction is important, right? ;)

I've had pretty good luck with the Cooper CS4's since posting at my 47,000 mile replacement. I had the same deal (buy 3 get the 4th free), and it was comparable to other tires, given the 80K mile warranty. I'm happy to report that I've gotten 34K so far out of the tires with less tread wear than expected, and fully expect them to hit the 80K mile mark, so long as I'm fortunate enough to avoid sidewall punctures, nails, etc. I've also posted MPG numbers comparable to the OEM tires (43-48 MPG - mixed city/highway miles). I hope this helps bolster the confidence in this tire as an alternative to more expensive tires.

Just an update... I decided on the Primacy after all. This tire seems to have the best ratings overall by Prius owners and after all, they'll probably be around a good 4 years or more, so I gotta get the best I can. Just got em put on today and I'm very pleased. EconoTire in Stanton CA just charged $44 to put them on! With my excellent deal @ TireRack.com and the $70 rebate, these tires cost me just $429.74! Gotta love that! :) Thanks everyone!!!

PLEASE SEE MY FOLLOWUP QUESTION: How can you know if/when you need an alignment? I could not link to it, since I've only posted 3 times. But, if you can help, please look for it and give me a quick reply. Thanks!!!

My mileage dropped for the first month, and you should expect a drop with any new tires, from what I hear (both on these forums, and elsewhere). This is mainly due to the increased traction of the tires. Keep in mind that after the initial wear period, you should see your mileage creep back to just around what you were used to with the OEM tires. I'm still getting 43-48 mpg on my CS4's. Keep them inflated to the proper psi at regular checks in order to ensure even wear. These tires were designed as "low rolling resistance" tires, and should still make a great replacement for high mileage vehicles. I'm still happy with mine after 35K miles on them, but different people with different vehicles and different routines will see different results, I'm sure. I hope you're able to get the most from yours.

OEM tire replaced with Cooper Trendsetter SE tires. Immediately lost 10% fuel efficiency on both highway and city. Was forced due to time to quickly choose a tire. Bad decision. Once I can afford to throw away $400+ will replace.
