I hate squirrels! Just hate them. The little buggers get into everything, chewing on wires and hoses, and make one hell of a mess in the process

Minor detail, those are chipmunks, but they can be just as bad. I hate squirrels too. They did $,$$$ worth of damage to my old ford explorer. The mechanic opened the hood and there was a nest in there. Momma and family ate through the brake line and quite a few wires (the leaking break fluid was the tip off that we had a problem). After that, the service guys referred to it as the squirrel mobile. ouch.

Yep, chipmunks. My dogs love them, or at least I think they would love them if they could ever catch one.

We always called them "fuzzy tails", because that's all you found in the blown-out transformer. The squirrel would vaporize, but his tail would survive to tell the story.

Chipmunks, squirrels = tree rats. Hate them with a passion

You'd be surprised - though probably not - at how many Motor Control Centers I've seen kerplode due to a squirrel/chipmunk/tree rat that happened to ground an inappropriate point

If it wasn't for the millions of dollars in damage, the vaporized tree rat and the stench of burnt tree rat fur would be worth it

LOL. My cat loves to go after them too. When we found her under our shed she was so small that a chipmunk chased her out of her hiding spot. I think she wants revenge! She's caught a couple (along with mice and moles), but doesn't know what to do with them. She baps the heck out them playing with them but eventually they get away. I don't mind this as I'd rather she didn't bring me "presents". She's trying to figure out how to climb trees to get the squirrels. She gets that look in her eye. :D

Can i hire her to come deal with my mole problem every year? Since spring this year, my count is up to 7 in my yard alone... That's 7 that i've managed to catch, there are probably still more down there somewhere.

That's a tempting offer, she'd enjoy the vacation, but driving from MA to MN means going through OH where my out-laws live. We do the trip to OH once a year at Christmas which doesn't coincide with mole hunting season in MN. In the summer she's booked for mouse patrol in VT.

I'll only add to the discussion here that it made my day to be looking out the window at FireEngineer's house and see a squirrel run across the snow and up a tree on the street at the front of his house. Then seeing a second one, I was beside myself.

Remember, I had never seen snow before so seeing squirrels in the snow was cute overload!

    You poor deprived man!

There is a cure, however: Spend a winter (November through April) in North Dakota  and you'll be happy to return to Oz and never see snow again.

Have to admit that 18 years in Minnesota really made me appreciate Bremerton Washington winters where you have to drive to the mountains to see snow. (Unfortunately, last couple of years we have started to have whole weeks with snow. Not thrilled....)

My neighbors who have gardens would very much agree with that statement

If my cats are in their window box and happen to notice a tree rat in the yard, they both growl and hiss. Must be instinctive for cats to hate tree rats

    Oy

Well then, prepare to visit with me in January. I'm sure you will find the -40, the snow, and the tree rats all impossibly cute

I'll even let you run the snowblower after a blizzard. That's just the sort of pal I am

I don't think it's legal to use the words "-40" and "cute" in the same sentence.

I ended up selling my house with moles. They won the battle...

Of course they won the battle. Did you expect a different outcome?

I figure the best way for Pat to learn that truism is for him to experience it himself

He'd probably be out there making snowmen and throwing snowballs and telling us we're all crazy for thinking snow isn't the best thing ever.
